Why homeowners choose Phantom

Sun and glare control

Outdoor blinds cut harsh sun and glare so your deck or patio stays usable for longer.

Keep the bugs out

Fine mesh stops flies, mosquitoes, and spiders getting in while your doors and windows stay open.

Fresh air all summer

Natural airflow cools your home and clears stuffiness, without letting insects in with it.

More privacy

Mesh and blind options soften sightlines into your home while you keep your view out.

  • Wide motorised outdoor screen enclosing a large home patio

One motor handles spans that are heavy to wind by hand.

  • Outdoor screen raised to open the living space to the deck

Raise the blinds to open the space back up.

  • Motorised outdoor blind with sensor-driven automation

Optional sun and wind sensors move the blinds for you.

  • Motorised outdoor blind dropped on a covered patio in the evening

Drop them for shade, insects, or weather at the push of a button.

  • Outdoor screen fitted under a pergola with captured side channels

Zip-guided side channels hold the fabric in the breeze.

  • Outdoor blind with white blockout fabric lowered over a wide bifold-door opening in a brick wall

Blockout fabric drops over a bifold opening to shade or close off the space.

  • Grey solar-mesh outdoor blind lowered over full-height glazing beside lounge furniture on a timber deck

Solar mesh cuts glare while keeping the outlook and airflow.

  • Black solar-mesh outdoor blind dropped from the soffit over a covered brick patio with lounge seating

Enclose a patio corner for shade and shelter at the touch of a button.

  • Row of solar-mesh outdoor blinds part-lowered across a long run of dark-framed stacking glass doors

One motor drives wide spans across multiple stacking-door bays.

  • Close-up of a Phantom outdoor blind branded bottom bar and cable guide above a swimming pool

The weighted bottom bar and guide keep the fabric tensioned.

  • View from a lounge through a wide opening with the outdoor screen raised into its top housing

The screen rolls fully into a slim top housing to leave the outlook clear.

  • Modern single-storey home at dusk with a covered outdoor living room open to a long pool

Executive motors drive the wide, tall spans of large covered outdoor rooms.

Effortless outdoor blinds

Motorised outdoor blinds turn a deck or patio into a room you actually use - drop them for shade, insects, or weather at the push of a button, and raise them to open the space back up. You control them by remote, wall switch, or home automation, and optional sun and wind sensors can do it for you.

When motorised is worth it

Large outdoor blinds are heavy, so anything wide, tall, or hard to reach is far nicer motorised. Multiple screens around a wrap-around deck operate together, and sensors keep them working while you are out. For smaller spans or off-grid sites, see manual outdoor blinds.

Fabrics

The E-Screen solar range

Executive screens are typically made in E-Screen - a tight architectural solar weave in 6% or 10% openness that cuts glare, heat, and UV while holding the outward view, backed by the fabric maker's 10-year warranty.

Also available

Clear-view insect mesh on the same Executive frame; clear PVC is available on request (typically on Ziptrak). We bring physical samples to the measure-up.

Visiontex privacy weaves

When privacy or deeper shade matters more than openness, the Visiontex family runs from 20% down to 0% openness in a Colorbond-inspired palette - these are the stocked Plus 94 colourways, with more available to order. Ziptrak blinds typically run Visiontex.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How are motorised outdoor blinds controlled? +

Alpha motors as standard (SIMU or Somfy on request) let you use a handheld remote, a wall switch, or home automation to raise and lower the blinds. Optional sun and wind sensors can also move them automatically, and SmartStop automatic braking is standard.

Why choose motorised over manual? +

Large outdoor blinds are heavy to move by hand, so motorisation is the easy choice for wide spans, multiple screens, or high or hard-to-reach openings. The hand-operated Ziptrak suits smaller spans and off-grid sites.

Can the blinds drop automatically with the sun or wind? +

Yes. Optional sun and wind sensors can lower the blinds for shade or raise them in a gust to protect the fabric, with no input from you.

Do they need wiring? +

Motorised blinds need a power supply to the motor. We coordinate the wiring run with your electrician on new builds, and find a tidy route on retrofits.

How do they handle wind? +

The captured side channels hold the fabric in place, and the blinds withstand gusts of around 60 kph when down. We do not recommend operating them in winds above about 35 kph, and an optional wind sensor can raise them automatically in a gust to protect the fabric.

What warranty do they come with? +

Motors carry a 5-year warranty and electricals and remotes carry a 1-year warranty, alongside our limited lifetime warranty on parts and 24 months on labour. Mesh and fabric are wear items, so they are excluded from the warranty but stay serviceable and replaceable. This sits alongside your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.

Why does the mesh show small ripples near the edges? +

Every screen and blind built on a step-down roller shows slight ripples or creases near the mesh edges - the zip edges need room to roll onto the roller, so the fabric folds gently on itself as it winds. It is inherent to every brand's zip-track system, it varies blind to blind and with the weather, and it softens in warmer weather and the longer the blind is down. It has no effect on performance or durability.

Are you the same company as Phantom Screens in the US or Canada? +

Phantom Screens NZ is New Zealand owned and run, and part of the wider Phantom Screens family. Phantom in Canada leads much of the group's research and development, and a few of our door and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes are too low to make them here. Our window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team.
