Why homeowners choose Phantom

Sun and glare control

Outdoor blinds cut harsh sun and glare so your deck or patio stays usable for longer.

Keep the bugs out

Fine mesh stops flies, mosquitoes, and spiders getting in while your doors and windows stay open.

Fresh air all summer

Natural airflow cools your home and clears stuffiness, without letting insects in with it.

More privacy

Mesh and blind options soften sightlines into your home while you keep your view out.

Built for the coast

Tighter midge mesh keeps sandflies and midges out of homes near the water and estuaries.

Built for the farm

Handles real fly pressure on big country openings, with midge and solar mesh options when you need them.

Manual outdoor blinds: the Ziptrak zip-track option

Not every outdoor blind needs a motor. Every Phantom Executive screen is motorised, so when you want a hand-operated blind we fit Ziptrak - a track-guided zip-track system that glides up and down by hand and locks at any height. You still get a made-to-measure fabric panel, captured side channels that hold it taut in wind, and a choice of insect mesh, solar mesh, or clear PVC - without wiring, remotes, or anything to go flat.

Ziptrak is our secondary, budget option: it suits smaller spans and openings you adjust now and then. If you will be raising and lowering a big screen every day, the motorised Phantom Executive is worth it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do manual outdoor blinds operate? +

Our manual option is the Ziptrak zip-track system: the blind glides up and down by hand on tensioned side tracks and holds at any height. There is no motor, no wiring, and nothing to power - which also makes it the pick for off-grid homes and tighter budgets.

When should I choose manual over motorised? +

Manual suits smaller spans, openings you adjust occasionally rather than daily, and sites where running power to the cassette is not practical. For wide or heavy screens - and anything you will move twice a day - motorisation is worth it.

Do manual blinds handle wind as well as motorised ones? +

Yes - wind performance comes from the captured zip-track side channels, not the drive. The fabric stays locked in its tracks either way, and for very exposed sites we can spec a heavier bottom bar.

What fabrics are available for manual outdoor blinds? +

The same range as our motorised screens: insect mesh for airflow and bug control, solar mesh for glare and daytime privacy, and clear PVC for weather protection.

How much do manual outdoor blinds cost? +

Manual operation avoids the cost of motors and wiring, so it is the budget-friendly way into outdoor blinds. Send photos and rough sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price.

Are you the same company as Phantom Screens in the US or Canada? +

Phantom Screens NZ is New Zealand owned and run, and part of the wider Phantom Screens family. Phantom in Canada leads much of the group's research and development, and a few of our door and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes are too low to make them here. Our window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team.
