In New Zealand, the types of doors found in homes are as diverse as the country’s landscape. From French doors to bi-fold doors, sliding doors, swinging doors and stacking doors, all of them can be made from either timber or aluminium frames. To keep out flying insects, it is important to have a fly screen door that is elegant, long-lasting, does not impede on the view and is discreet and easy to use.

The best approach for achieving this will nearly always involve a Foldaway insect screen or Rollaway insect screen. These types of screen doors are designed to retract or roll away when not in use, allowing full access to the door and an unobstructed view. The type of door opening handles, and personal design preference will play a role in determining which one is the best fit. Both options are available in various designs and colours, providing an option to match any home aesthetic.

If you are unsure which fly screen door to choose, it is recommended to consult with a professional, they can help you make the best decision based on your specific needs and preferences.

For Kiwi’s, fly screens are the most common method of insect control for windows. They are effective at keeping out flies, mosquitoes, and other flying insects while allowing fresh air to circulate through the house.

Awning windows are the most popular type of window to install fly screens on, but there is also a growing trend towards larger bi-fold, sash, and casement windows. These larger windows require a more versatile and durable fly screen solution to effectively keep out insects.

The Serene retractable window screen is often considered the best option for these types of windows. It is well-designed, customisable with different colours, and can last for many years without issues. It can be easily operated and maintained, providing a great balance of functionality, durability, and aesthetic appeal.

A less expensive alternative is the Magnetic insect screens, however, they do not have the same longevity or the same level of aesthetics when compared to the Serene, they are also not as versatile and can’t fit as many window types.

Patio blinds are a popular choice for those who want to make the most of their outdoor areas in New Zealand, where the climate can be unpredictable and variable. Phantom Screens offers two options for patio blinds: the Executive motorised screen and the Cocha patio blind.

The Executive motorised screen is an award-winning product that can span large openings, up to 12 meters in a recessed unit or 8 meters in a standard unit. The Cocha patio blind is a durable option that can withstand high winds if needed.

Phantom Screens works with builders and architects to install patio blinds in new builds or to retrofit existing outdoor spaces.
