Pet-friendly options

Claw-resistant pet mesh stands up to paws, claws, and pets that jump.

See pet-friendly screens

Retractable insect screen doors, made to measure

An insect screen door lets you leave the door open on a summer evening without inviting the flies in. Ours are retractable - the mesh pulls across when you want it and disappears into a slim cassette when you do not - and every screen is custom-made to fit your exact opening.

We fit three systems: the Phantom MeshLock for single doors and small sliders, the Phantom Wall Screen for wide sliders and bifolds (openings to about 9 m with two screens meeting, standard insect mesh), and the Brio 612 pleated screen for architectural builds. See the full comparison on our door screens page, or jump straight to front and back doors and ranch sliders and sliding doors.

Which doors we can screen

Most homes have us retrofit to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy surface-mounted cassette, so there is no need to replace the door:

  • Hinged and single doors - the MeshLock retractable screen suits standard entry and laundry doors. See front and back doors.
  • Ranch sliders and sliding doors - the classic two-panel slider plus wider multi-panel sliders and stackers, openings to about 9 m (standard insect mesh). See ranch slider and sliding door screens.
  • Bi-fold doors - the Phantom Wall Screen or Brio 612 pleated spans the full fold-back opening. See bi-fold door screens.
  • French doors - one screen across the pair (no bars in the middle), or a cassette each side. See French door screens.
  • Architectural and new builds - both the Wall Screen and the Brio 612 pleated can be recessed or pocketed into the build; Brio 612 is the lower-profile specifier option with no cassette.

Mesh and colour to suit the opening

The standard insect mesh is high-visibility, so it keeps flies, mosquitoes, and spiders out while leaving your light and view largely unchanged. Coastal and estuary homes can step up to a tighter midge mesh for sandflies and midges, and households with pets can choose a tougher pet mesh. The hardware is powder-coated and colour-matched to your joinery, confirmed against a physical sample at the measure-up. Every screen we make carries our limited lifetime warranty.

Colours

Any colour, matched to your joinery.

Screens are powder-coated from the Dulux range, Matt as standard, so the hardware disappears into your frames rather than standing out. The 20 we hold as standard cover about 85% of the homes we screen.

Not on the list? We match almost any colour you like, and anodised finishes are available as a custom option too - a small surcharge, confirmed at your quote.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do insect screen doors stop flies and mosquitoes? +

Yes. The mesh seals the doorway when extended, so flies, mosquitoes, and spiders stay outside while your door stands open for fresh air.

Can an insect screen be fitted to my existing door? +

Almost always. Most of our installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy surface-mounted cassette. Send a photo and a rough opening size and we will confirm fit and an indicative price.

What door types can you screen? +

Hinged doors, sliding and stacking doors, ranch sliders, French doors, and bifolds. Openings up to about 9 m are covered with the Phantom Wall Screen system - up to ~4.5 m per screen with standard insect mesh, two meeting in the middle.

Do insect screen doors block the view or the light? +

No. Standard insect mesh is high-visibility, so daylight and views stay largely unchanged - and the screen retracts fully into its cassette when you are not using it.

How much does an insect screen door cost? +

Every screen is made to measure, so price depends on the opening size, screen type, and mesh. Send photos and rough sizes through the quote form for an indicative price - we only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.

Are you the same company as Phantom Screens in the US or Canada? +

Phantom Screens NZ is New Zealand owned and run, and part of the wider Phantom Screens family. Phantom in Canada leads much of the group's research and development, and a few of our door and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes are too low to make them here. Our window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team.
