Natural airflow cools your home and clears stuffiness, without letting insects in with it.

Pet-friendly options

MeshLock on a Taupō front door, colour-matched to the joinery.

  • A retractable MeshLock screen on a hinged front door

A slim cassette mounts to the side of the door frame.

  • Bronze MeshLock retractable insect screen extended across a hinged entry door on a brick home, with a matching aluminium sidelight

Best fit for hinged doors

Hinged front and back doors are the most common opening we screen. A Phantom MeshLock retractable cassette mounts neatly to the frame, the mesh stays retained in its tracks for everyday durability, and the whole screen disappears when you are not using it. Screening a pair of doors? See French door screens - one screen across the pair, or a cassette each side.

Mesh and finish

The full mesh range applies here - standard insect mesh for most homes, midge mesh for coastal and estuary properties, and pet mesh for households with dogs and cats. See our mesh options for every weave. Hardware is powder-coated and colour-matched to the Dulux range so the cassette blends into your joinery - see colour options.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do fly screens on hinged doors actually stop insects? +

Yes. The mesh seals the opening when extended, so flies, mosquitoes, and spiders stay outside while the door stands open for airflow.

Can a screen be fitted to my existing hinged door? +

Almost always. Most installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy surface-mounted cassette. Send a photo and rough size and we will confirm fit and an indicative price.

Will the screen block the view or make the doorway darker? +

No. Standard insect mesh is high-visibility, and the screen retracts fully into its slim cassette when you are not using it, leaving the doorway completely clear.

How does the screen handle wind? +

Phantom MeshLock keeps the mesh retained in the side tracks, which resists the blow-outs that catch loose-hanging screens in a gust.

What maintenance does a hinged-door screen need? +

A seasonal vacuum of the mesh and a damp-cloth wipe of the tracks keeps it running smoothly. Mesh cartridges are replaceable if one is ever damaged.

Are you the same company as Phantom Screens in the US or Canada? +

Phantom Screens NZ is New Zealand owned and run, and part of the wider Phantom Screens family. Phantom in Canada leads much of the group's research and development, and a few of our door and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes are too low to make them here. Our window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team.
