“I cannot believe we still get the same view with these screens installed. They blend in seamlessly and work perfectly.”

Whangamatā is a beach town first - baches and holiday homes around the harbour and the surf beach, with more people making it home year-round every summer. Between the estuary, the bush behind town, and the warm, still evenings, the mosquitoes and sandflies arrive right when you want the doors open. Phantom Screens NZ fits made-to-measure retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team - we are regularly on this side of the Coromandel.
Most Whangamatā places sit shut up between visits, so the first job on arrival is always airing the house out. Retractable screens let you throw every door and window open the moment you get there - the ranchslider onto the deck, the awning windows that catch the sea breeze - and leave them open through dinner without the bugs following you in. When you lock up again, the screens retract fully into their slim cassettes, so nothing is left sitting out in the salt and weather while you are away. For homes close to the water - the harbour at the north end of town or the Otahu estuary at the south - a tighter midge mesh holds out the sandflies that the standard weave lets through, while keeping your view of the water clear.
The smaller settlements along this stretch of coast get the same treatment. Opoutere sits on the Wharekawa Harbour, where pines, dunes, and tidal flats make for real sandfly pressure on a still evening; Onemana’s homes climb the hill above the beach; and Whiritoa rounds out the southern end. We cover all three on the same runs as Whangamatā, so an install out here never waits on a special trip.

FAQ
Yes. We have a steady run of work in Whangamatā, and we cover Onemana, Opoutere, and Whiritoa on the same trips up the coast. Send your details through and we will confirm timing for your place.
That suits how we work. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price - nobody needs to be at the property for that. Once you are happy with the product and the price, we time the measure-up and the install for when you are next up, or work in with whoever looks after the place for you.
Well. The frames are powder-coated aluminium and the standard mesh is a coated fibreglass weave, both made for coastal conditions, and because the screens retract fully into their cassette when you are not using them - or while the bach is empty - they spend most of their life out of the weather. An occasional wash-down, the same care as your joinery, is all they ask.
We're part of the wider Phantom Screens family, and Phantom Screens NZ is New Zealand owned and run. Phantom in Canada leads much of the international research and development, and a few of our door and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes are too small to make them here. Our window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team across the upper North Island.
