“I cannot believe we still get the same view with these screens installed. They blend in seamlessly and work perfectly.”

Ōmokoroa reaches out into Tauranga Harbour between Tauranga and Katikati, with water close on both sides of the peninsula. It is a place people move to for the harbour - long-settled residents and retirees near the Point, and young families filling the new subdivisions further back - and everyone runs into the same thing on a warm evening: the insects that lift off the estuary as the light drops. We fit retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds, all made to measure, and Ōmokoroa gives us a steady run of local work, so we are regularly on the peninsula.
Living beside tidal flats has a catch. On still evenings, midges and sandflies drift up from the water’s edge, and they are small enough to get through a standard fly screen. For homes close to the harbour we fit a tighter 20x20 midge mesh that holds them out, while the standard 18x14 mesh keeps the widest, clearest outlook for homes further from the water. Newer Ōmokoroa homes are designed around indoor-outdoor flow - big sliders and stackers onto a deck facing the harbour - and retractable screens draw across those wide openings then disappear into a slim cassette when you want nothing between you and the view. Our retractable window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team.
Our base is in Tauranga, a short run down State Highway 2, so getting to Ōmokoroa is easy - and the same goes for the rural and lifestyle properties around the peninsula at Plummers Point, Whakamārama, Te Puna, Pahoia, and Apata, where the fly pressure off paddocks and orchards is its own reason to screen the doors.

FAQ
Yes. A lot of our Ōmokoroa work is in the newer subdivisions along the peninsula, where homes are built around wide sliding and stacker doors and modern aluminium joinery. Retractable screens are made to measure for exactly those openings, with a slim powder-coated cassette matched to your joinery colour, and we usually fit them after handover once the joinery is in.
A tighter mesh. The standard 18x14 weave handles flies and mosquitoes, but harbour midges are small enough to work through it. For homes near the water's edge we fit a 20x20 midge mesh that holds them out while still letting the evening air move through and keeping the outlook clear.
Yes. The screen slides on a light action you can operate with one hand, retracts fully into its cassette when you are not using it, and there are no panels to lift out or store - which matters to plenty of the retired households on the peninsula. If anything ever needs adjusting, the same team that fitted your screens services them.
Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the solution and product - and Ōmokoroa is an easy run from our Tauranga base.
We're part of the wider Phantom Screens family, and Phantom Screens NZ is New Zealand owned and run. Phantom in Canada leads much of the international research and development, and a few of our door and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes are too small to make them here. Our window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team across the upper North Island.
