What is a Pleated Screen?

Pleated screen is the term used to describe, insect mesh that folds back onto itself, when retracted. Phantom Screens use the concertina (or pleats) for an out of sight, out of mind style.

Unlike other screen options, the Brio pleated screen does not feature a cassette with a spring-tensioned mechanism. Instead, it is a braided string that threads through four to six (depending on height), sections of the screen. This braided string self tensions, utilising the bottom track as a pathway to push and pull. As you pull or push the screen to open and close. The bottom track features a small glide aluminium in the chosen colour to fit over the tensioning strings that helps guide the screen when pulled. The top track acts as a “push” as it keeps your screen firmly in place as you use it.

The beauty of this style of material, is that in years (and we mean years) to come the only part that will need replacing, is the braided thread. This repair depends on where the screen has been installed. If you have it on the sunniest side of your home, the thread tends to dry quicker.

For larger openings, a brio pleated screen is the perfect option for a wide range of architectural openings such as bi-folding panels, french doors, windows and sliding panels. It has the ability to screen 3.2 metres high and 9 metres wide, with a double screen that meets in the middle. The screen then becomes two, so you have the ability to isolate one side as need be.

Recently, we have used this particular screens in yoga rooms, with bifold windows. In small doorways, with one opening side. And in larger family rooms with 3m wide stacking sliders. The flexibility of these screens is endless.

If you have one of these already installed. And you want to get the most out of your brio’s life. We recommend these cleaning tips:

  • Vacuum the bottom track
  • Wipe with a soft cloth and non abrasive cleaner
  • Wipe both the top and bottom of the pull bar
  • Spray the bottom and top track with silicone
