A less visible screen, restricts the airflow. If privacy is not a priority. An open insect mesh, for maximum airflow, is recommended.
An Executive screen, is the best screen to have a balance of both privacy, and airflow. Because, it has three view options. 60%, 90% and 95%. Once the measurement is complete, your needs will be discussed. Consider exactly what you require from the screen, for the mesh to meet your expectations.
There is always some visibility unless, blackout as a mesh option is chosen. The screens that have mesh options are:
Note, the mesh selections vary, throughout these products. The depth and vision also vary in percent. So discussing your options on the day of your measure, is vital for you to get the product that suits your needs.

Outdoor motorised blinds, are set up with a “molex clip” on the end of a wiring system. So, this is ready for the electrician to then cut off, and do either:
- Add a three point plug; or
- Wire it directly into a terminal box
Both options are viable. But, our recommendation is too have a three point plug installed. To isolate, the screens functionality when multiple screens are installed, for one remote.
Phantom Screens, will not organise an electrician. This must be organised prior to installation. We recommend, the electrician arrive the day after the screens have been completed. Our installer will take you through how to use your screens, at your property. But, if you are finding it difficult to adjust them, after the electrician has done the “mains”. Give us a call, and we will send someone out to re-configure them.
Tips on how to set your screen:
- Set the screens back to factory reset
- Factory reset is found, on the cassette part of the screen
- Do this one screen at a time. This is so the remote picks up on each screen
- Once you have factory reset the first screen. Add the screen via the remote to one of your buttons
- And the process continues
If you have done these steps, or it’s a headache, and the screens are still not working. Contact us, and we will send an installer over, to go through this with you.
The quicker you organise to have the power set up, for each of your screens. The quicker, we can get them working simultaneously.

At Phantom we endeavour to have your screen ordered, powder coated (to your desired colour), assembled and installed within a four to eight weeks from the approval of the quote. Some products are made in our factory in Australia and that can add a couple of weeks to the process if transport isn’t effective at the time.
At times we have experienced supply and “pandemic” issues that has unfortunately prolonged timeframes. We are forever making improvements to prevent this from happening.
Also expect some delay to the above timeframe during peak seasons when demand can quadruple overnight.
You can choose any colour that pertains, to the aluminium components of the screen. Phantom use, the Dulux powder-coating colour range. When an on-site measurement is done. Your chosen colour, will be confirmed on-site. Depending on the product you are interested in. The colour charts vary slightly in name. Between New Zealand, and Australia.
When the measure is complete, that is the perfect time to discuss your colour selection. When you choose to go ahead, this will save time delays in ordering. If your house has recently been built, the colour of your joinery would have been discussed. The colour will be found on the joinery specific plans.
For those of you who are unsure of the colour of your joinery. Our experts always carry a colour book. And will use windows and doors as a reference guide.
To ensure seamless integration of decor. We will consider any custom finishes, or bespoke colours.
The powder-coating colour guide is endless, in terms of finish. Powder-coated colours are finished with a sparkle, meaning the paint reflects light rather than absorbs it. All powder-coated products, are sent to a Dulux accredited powder coater, for premium results.
Colours that are not finished in a sparkle, are those that are matte finished. A product with a matte finish, absorbs the light rather than reflecting it.
The pleated screen has a set colour. This means we will order your custom colour from the New Zealand Dulux range, and ship it to our Australian suppliers so the frame can be the colour you have requested. Custom colours do carry an extra charge, but this will be discussed with you before sending the first deposit invoice.

Yes, yes & yes! While we maybe a little biased. But without even considering the huge saving of annoyance, from flies and mosquitoes.
Consider the cost of ten years worth of cans of fly spray. Now consider, the cost of cooling your house when the doors are closed. Or the fly poo on paint work, being cleaned or repainted. By far, a fly screen is cheaper in the long run. In comparison to paying a painter or having to steam mop your walls!
For instance, a quality insect screen installed by Phantom, isn’t just down to the screen itself. Phantoms quality screens lie in the overall components, that make up the screen. It is down to the science of mesh holes and longevity, the aluminium that is used, the powder-coaters we work with, and the ease of use. Who else makes a better retractable screen? We challenge you to find a quality comparison you don’t have to assemble, and install yourself.
Consequently, living costs are only ever rising. Because of this, it is important to understand and examine all of your options. Phantom want you to enjoy your home. Just as much as we enjoy installing long-term, cost effective screens in your home. If you are struggling to make a decision. We have customers only coming back to us after 17+ years, to have minor parts changed or repaired. In terms of minor repairs, we are talking sun fade on the strings in a brio, a small tear in a flat mesh screen, or a popped out rollaway screen. Because of these small adjustments, customers are only being charged between two-three hundred dollars. WOW! What a saving, if you take into account the fact that they paid $2,000.00, 17+ years prior.
Get them, you won’t regret ’em and when choosing, buy nice or buy twice.

The Executive, and the Cocha screen are both leading products in their field. Determining the differences is done by design, operation, mesh and tracks.
Below, we have outlined the main differences in the components of the two retractable awnings.
For more information on each screen, head on over to our resources page.
For example, both the screens have a cassette (roller), at the top. Where the mesh rolls into. And tracks down the side.
Phantom’s Executive, is an elegantly refined screen. Which offers more track, cassette, mesh and accessory options.
Our Cocha, is designed to block the weather, and can be latched down. By doing this, the screen has extra strength, in higher winds.
The Executive screen, is operated by an electric motor. Unlike the Cocha, that is manually wound up, and down with a crank handle. Alternatively, a Cocha screen can have a motor added.
Similarly, both screens can be operated via remote control, or phone app. Multiple screens can be added to either remote, or app.
An Executive screen can be fitted with a sensor, that will retract the screen in high winds. The sensor requires its own power supply, where it is mounted.
It is also recommended, to have the ability to switch the sensor off (isolate). If gusts are causing it to retract unnecessarily. We have a phone app available, to manually retract the screen remotely. If the weather forecast is poor.
Home automation is also a possibility, with the Executive screen. This is done via a 4-core motor, that is wired directly into the home automation system. So, the screen is then not operated via a remote. Thus, controlled completely via the home automation.
Alternatively, for home automation, a standard motor can be used by adding a “dry contact interface”. The dry contact interface, is essentially another remote that is wired into the home automation system.
The home automation system, sends a signal to the dry contact interface, and the dry contact interface sends a radio signal (like a remote), to the screen. This approach, allows the use of a standard remote for the screen, as well as home automation to control the awning.
The Cocha screen, has one type of mesh. This is designed to specifically block the weather. It comes in a range of colours, but all are 95% closed.
A Cocha, is sturdy and has an element of transparency. Which is perfect for blocking weather, and maintaining privacy!
An Executive screen, does not have the same colour selection. But it offers mesh that is 50% open that won’t obstruct the view. The Executive, offers three depths of mesh in 60%, 90% and 95%. This depends on the ratio of visibility, and blockage required.
In terms of colour selection. Charcoal or dark colours are much easier, for the eye to see through.
The Cocha has a single track option. Which can be mounted on the surface (outside of posts), or on the inside (between the posts). It is a large track (80mm). Because it is designed to be as robust as possible.
An Executive has a range of tracks. The “Standard” track is for surface mounting, and is 60mm wide. An alternative option is to have a “Recessed” track that is a U channel, which is slightly smaller. It can be recessed into a wall, post or fixed to the outside.
For the Executive screen. A new track option that is “Cable Guided”, is now offered. The track is a self-tensioning cable. Which is fixed from the cassette to a plate mounted on the floor or wall. The screen travels up and down the cable, rather than needing a track.
The cassette (aluminium cover for the roller), looks similar on both screens.
The Executive has three different sizes, depending on the size of the screen (100mm, 140mm or 180mm). 8m+ wide screens, may need to be recessed into the building. This will require a 200mmx300mm cavity, for best results.
A Cocha, will typically come with a cassette. But we do have the ability to mount it, without any aluminium cover. If this style is preferred.
