# Retractable Fly Screen Doors NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/door-screens/
Custom retractable fly screen doors for ranch sliders, sliding, bi-fold, hinged and French doors, made to measure and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- NZ owned - Made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- Up to 9.0 m - With standard mesh, subject to height
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Professional fit - Service through Phantom NZ
FAQs:
Q: Can you screen my specific door?
A: Almost always, yes - single doors, French pairs, sliding and stacking doors, bi-folds, doors that swing in or out, and even servery openings. Send us a quick photo and a rough opening size and we can confirm the best screen type and an indicative price - usually without a site visit.
Q: Is there anything a retractable screen won't suit?
A: A few situations need a different approach, and we would rather flag them before you buy. Door hardware that sits proud, such as some lever handles or pull bars, can foul a retractable screen, so we check the clearances at the measure-up and suggest an alternative screen or a small hardware tweak where needed. Very wide openings beyond a single screen's span are handled by meeting two screens in the middle or stepping up to a door-style system. Send a photo with your enquiry and we will tell you honestly what will and won't work for your opening.
Q: Can fly screens be fitted to my existing doors?
A: Yes - most of our installations are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy surface-mounted finish. On new builds we coordinate recess details with your joiner or builder so the cassette disappears into the frame.
Q: How do these screens handle wind and everyday use?
A: Captured edge door screens keep the mesh zipped into the top and bottom tracks to resist blow-outs. Brio 612 Pleated Screen uses tensioning cords. We assess exposure and explain the operating guidance for your installation.
Q: Do fly screen doors block the view or the light?
A: No. Standard insect mesh is high-visibility, so daylight and views stay largely unchanged, and the screen retracts fully into its cassette when you are not using it.
Q: What care and maintenance is needed?
A: A seasonal vacuum of the mesh plus a damp-cloth wipe of the tracks or housings keeps the system running smoothly. Mesh cartridges are replaceable and parts are serviceable long-term. The full routine is in our care guide.
Q: How much does a retractable fly screen door cost?
A: Every screen is made to measure, so the price depends on the opening size, screen type, and mesh. Send photos and rough sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price - we only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
Q: How do Phantom screens compare to cheaper alternatives?
A: Most of the price difference is in the frame, the finish, and the internal componentry, and it shows over time. Our retractable screens are built on solid aluminium extrusions with a durable powder-coated finish, so the housing and tracks stand up to coastal conditions and daily use rather than flexing or fading. A lot of the difference is inside the screen: on a quality screen the cords run over a brass wheel rather than through a drilled hole, and the parts are serviceable - door screens we fitted on Beach Road at Mount Maunganui were still going after 17 years, and when they finally stopped retracting the fix was a new spring, not a new screen. The easiest check is the feel: a cheaper screen feels flimsy or clunky to operate, often rattles, and uses a lot of plastic parts. Phantom-made screens carry our limited lifetime warranty, and the mesh cartridges and parts are replaceable, so a screen is serviced rather than thrown away. A cheaper kit screen is usually a thinner extrusion with fixed mesh and a short warranty - less up front, but more often replaced.
Q: Where do you install?
A: We arrange professional installation across the upper North Island, from Taupo north - Northland, Auckland, Waikato, and the Bay of Plenty. We take on larger or architectural projects nationwide by arrangement. See all the areas we install in.
Q: What is the largest door opening you can screen?
A: Captured edge door screens cover everyday doorways and wide openings. The 45 mm housing suits spans to about 1.2 m and the 60 mm to 2.0 m. An 80 mm unit reaches 4.5 m with standard, midge or pet mesh, or 3.5 m with E-Screen, at heights up to 3.0 m. Above that height, widths reduce. Two suitable screens can meet across a wider opening. Send rough sizes and we will confirm the combination for your quote.
Q: How long does it take to get my door screens?
A: Every screen is custom-made to measure, so the lead time depends on the product and the time of year - we confirm a firm timeframe when you accept your quote. The install itself is usually completed in a single visit.
Q: Are you the same company as Phantom Screens in the US or Canada?
A: Phantom Screens NZ is New Zealand owned and run, and part of the wider Phantom Screens family. Phantom in Canada leads much of the group's research and development, and a few of our door and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes are too low to make them here. Most of our screens are made to measure in our own Tauranga workshop.
## Why choose Phantom door screens?
- Open your doors without flies, spiders, and other insects entering your home
- Improve ventilation to keep your home feeling fresh and prevent overheating
- Reduce glare while maintaining natural light and views
- Custom colour-matched to your joinery and professionally installed
Custom-made retractable and pleated door screens for sliders, bifolds, French
doors, and more - retrofitted or built-in, protecting New Zealand homes since
1999.
## Choose by the door you use
Keep your existing doors and add a screen that retracts beside the frame when
it is not needed. Start with the clear opening you walk through, rather than
the full width of the glass. Handles, the threshold and available fixing space
help determine the fit.
- **An everyday doorway or wide slider:** captured edge door screens roll away beside the frame. We select the housing for the span, height and mesh.
- **Bi-folds or a new build:** compare captured edge with Brio 612 Pleated Screen. Discuss recesses before the joinery is finalised.
- **Pets using the doorway:** ask about pet mesh on compatible captured edge screens. Brio has no pet-mesh option. Insect screens are not containment barriers.
### Captured edge door screens
The mesh is zipped into the top and bottom tracks to resist blow-outs. It rolls
back into a colour-matched cassette when you want the opening clear. The 45, 60
and 80 mm housings are sizes within this range, selected for your opening.
For specification, the 45 and 60 mm units use the MeshLock system; the 80 mm unit
uses the Wall Screen system. Maximum single-screen sizes are:
| Housing | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|
| 45 mm | 1.22 m | 2.54 m |
| 60 mm | 2.0 m | 3.0 m |
| 80 mm, standard / midge / pet mesh | 4.5 m | Up to 3.0 m |
| 80 mm, E-Screen solar mesh | 3.5 m | Up to 3.0 m |
| 80 mm, above 3.0 m high | 3.0 m standard; 2.5 m midge, pet or E-Screen | Up to 3.6 m |
The 80 mm housing needs at least 1.75 m height. Two suitable units can meet in
the middle for wider openings, up to about 9 m with standard mesh and suitable
height. We confirm the complete configuration at the measure.
### Brio 612 Pleated Screen
Pleated mesh folds to the side with no spring tension, so it stays where you
leave it. Brio suits both everyday and wide openings, with recessed and post-less
corner options. It uses its own pleated mesh, with no pet-mesh option.
## Mesh and finish options
- **Standard insect mesh (18x14)** - balanced airflow and insect protection
for most inland homes.
- **Midge mesh (18x18 no-see-um)** - tighter weave to block sandflies and midges common
around coasts and estuaries.
- **Pet mesh** - resists light damage from small pets on compatible captured edge screens.
It is not pet-proof or a containment barrier.
- **Powder-coat colours** - colour-matched to your joinery from the Dulux range, Matt as standard, with custom colours available for a small surcharge.
The [mesh options guide](/guides/mesh-options/) covers every weave in
detail, including which products each mesh is available on.
## Retrofit or new build - easy either way
Most projects are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery, with neat surface
mounting that complements the door frame. Where timber or recessed details are
preferred, we coordinate with your joiner or builder to integrate the cassette
or pleat pocket during the build.
Not sure which way to go? Send a photo and a rough opening size via the quote
form and we will confirm the right product, span limits, and an indicative
price.

# Pet-Friendly Retractable Insect Screens NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/pet-friendly-screens/
Pet-friendly insect screens with claw-resistant pet mesh, built to stand up to cats and dogs. Custom-made to fit and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- Pet-resistant - Tougher than standard insect mesh
- Made to measure - Fit checked for your opening
- Retractable - Clears the doorway when open
- Serviceable - Ask about replacement mesh
FAQs:
Q: Will pet mesh stop my pet escaping?
A: No. Pet mesh is an insect-screen fabric, not a containment barrier. A pet that jumps, climbs, bites or pushes can still damage the mesh or screen. Use a suitable separate barrier if you need to keep an animal safely contained.
Q: Is pet mesh suitable for a large dog or a climbing cat?
A: Do not choose it on toughness alone. Tell us your pet's size and behaviour, and send a photo of the opening. PawScreen Lite is intended to resist light damage from small pets; repeated impacts or climbing are beyond that promise.
Q: Can you upgrade an existing screen?
A: Send photos of the screen, frame and label if available. We will check the system, condition and dimensions before confirming a mesh replacement.
Q: Will the view and airflow change?
A: Pet mesh has a heavier weave than standard insect mesh, so it is more visible and less open. Compare physical samples before choosing your fabric.
## Fresh air in a home with pets
A retractable screen lets you use the doorway for ventilation, then rolls away
when you want an open passage. Pet-resistant mesh offers a tougher alternative
to standard insect mesh, with a more visible weave.
## Match the screen to your pet's behaviour
An occasional paw is different from a dog charging a door or a cat climbing the
mesh. PawScreen Lite is designed to resist light damage from small pets. It is
not an assurance against tearing, track damage, escape or injury.
Compare [door screen systems](/door-screens/) and
[ranch-slider options](/door-screens/ranch-slider/). Pet mesh is also available
on compatible [Executive motorised screens](/outdoor-blinds/motorised/); it is
not offered on Serene window screens or manual Ziptrak in our published range.
## Get an indicative price
[Send photos and rough sizes](/quote/): the whole doorway, the handle and frame,
and the bottom track. Tell us your town, your pet's size and behaviour, and
whether an existing screen needs replacing. We check compatibility and discuss
the limitations before recommending a system. Final sizes are confirmed at the measure-up.

# Outdoor Blinds NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/outdoor-blinds/
Motorised and manual outdoor blinds - also called outdoor screens - in insect and solar mesh for patios and outdoor spaces, professionally installed.
Key facts:
- Up to 12 m - Largest single screen (Executive)
- 100/140/180 mm - Three housing sizes
- Motorised - Remote, sensors, automation
- Since 1999 - NZ owned
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- In-house - Measured, made & fitted
FAQs:
Q: What openings can Executive screens cover?
A: Executive configurations in insect, solar and E-Screen mesh reach 8 m wide x 5 m drop. Above 8 m through 12 m wide, the maximum drop is 3.3 m, with the required housing, roller and support cradles. Visiontex privacy fabrics are not made past 8 m wide and run to 3.9 m high. The compact 100 mm unit runs to 3.0 m wide x 2.45 m drop. We can also link screens for wrap-around decks and recess them into pergolas or soffits.
Q: Are they motorised?
A: Yes - every Phantom Executive screen is motorised: Alpha motors as standard (SIMU or Somfy on request) with handheld remotes, wall switches, sun and wind sensors, home automation, and SmartStop automatic braking. There is no hand-cranked Executive; when you want a hand-operated screen we fit a separate Ziptrak zip-track blind that you move up and down by hand.
Q: Can they handle coastal wind and salt air?
A: The captured zipper retention system keeps the fabric locked in the side channels through gusts; for very exposed sites we specify heavier bottom bars, wind sensors, or step up to the 180 mm housing. The powder-coated hardware is finished for year-round outdoor use, including coastal sites. For when to use a blind and when to retract it, see our outdoor blinds and wind guide.
Q: Do they offer privacy?
A: Solar mesh options provide daytime privacy while keeping views - the more closed the Visiontex weave, the more privacy and shade. For closing the space against weather, choose clear PVC.
Q: What will the fabric and colour actually look like?
A: Outdoor screen fabrics are technical meshes and PVC, not canvas, and they read differently depending on the openness of the weave and the light. An open insect mesh is barely there; a tighter solar or privacy mesh looks more solid and cuts glare and heat; clear PVC is glass-like. Colours can look lighter in bright sun than in a photo, so we bring physical fabric samples to the measure-up and check them against your orientation, view, and exposure before anything is made - so the finished screen is what you expected, not a surprise.
Q: How are outdoor blinds quoted and installed?
A: Send photos and rough sizes of the opening through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. Once you are happy, we visit to measure precisely, then manufacture and install - most installs are completed within a day.
Q: Outdoor blinds or outdoor screens - what's the difference?
A: They are the same product - the terms are used interchangeably in New Zealand. The mesh-fabric versions, which keep insects out while holding the airflow and view, are often called outdoor screens; the clear PVC and blockout versions, which close a space against the weather, are usually called outdoor blinds. The same Executive frame and captured-zipper system takes either, so the choice is about the fabric, not a different product.
Q: Why does the mesh show small ripples near the edges?
A: Every screen and blind built on a step-down roller shows slight ripples or creases near the mesh edges - the zip edges need room to roll onto the roller, so the fabric folds gently on itself as it winds. It is inherent to every brand's zip-track system, it varies blind to blind and with the weather, and it softens in warmer weather and the longer the blind is down. It has no effect on performance or durability.
Q: What care and maintenance is needed?
A: Rinse the mesh or PVC with fresh water now and then (especially near the coast), keep the side channels clear of debris, and let a wet screen dry before rolling it up. The full routine is in our care guide.
## What is an outdoor screen?
An outdoor screen, also called an outdoor blind, is a vertical fabric panel
that descends from a cassette usually used to enclose patios and pergolas.
Executive screens travel on side channels to seal the opening, stopping flies
or mosquitoes, the sun or a breeze so you can dine outside longer without
flapping plastic blinds or temporary nets. The captured zipper system holds the
fabric taut year-round outdoors.
## Sized for your opening
The compact **100 mm housing** suits openings up to 3.0 m wide x 2.45 m drop
with compatible mesh. For larger openings, we specify the **140 or 180 mm
system**, selecting the housing, roller and supports together.
Compatible insect, solar and E-Screen configurations reach 8 m wide x 5 m drop.
Above 8 m through 12 m wide, the maximum drop is 3.3 m and support cradles are required. Visiontex and other polyester privacy fabrics are limited to
8 m wide x 3.9 m drop. Clear PVC needs its own size and fixing assessment.
We confirm the complete combination before manufacture.
## The fabric range
The same Executive frame takes the full range of mesh and fabric openness, so
the screen is matched to what the space needs rather than the other way round:
- **[Insect mesh](/outdoor-blinds/mesh/)** - clear-view standard weave for
airflow and near-unobstructed views, the finer NoSeeUms weave for sandflies
on bush and coastal sites, or PawScreen Lite where animals share the space.
- **Solar and privacy fabrics** - Visiontex and E-Screen weaves that cut glare,
heat, and UV while holding the daytime view; the more closed the weave, the
more privacy and shade.
- **Weather and blockout** - [clear PVC](/outdoor-blinds/pvc/) for full
enclosure on request (for almost every opening we recommend a mesh instead),
and blockout fabric as a special order for indoor Executives behind big
glass.
The fabric is confirmed at the measure-up against the orientation, view, and
exposure of the opening. The [mesh options guide](/guides/mesh-options/)
compares every weave - openness percentages included - across our door, window,
and outdoor ranges.
## Use cases
- **Patios** - seal open patios for barbecues without blocking views. Mesh
retains airflow and keeps insects out.
- **Pergolas** - recess Executive screens into timber or aluminium pergolas
for clean lines.
- **Decks** - protect coastal decks from sandflies, gusts, and sideways rain
while keeping glass balustrades clear.
- **Commercial** - ideal for hospitality courtyards needing flexible enclosure.
## Motorised or manual
Every Phantom Executive screen is motorised - handheld remotes, wall switches,
sun/wind sensors, or home automation - because large screens are heavy to move
by hand. For a hand-operated, no-power alternative we fit Ziptrak zip-track
blinds, our secondary budget option for smaller spans. See the dedicated
[manual outdoor blinds](/outdoor-blinds/manual/) and
[patio blinds](/outdoor-blinds/patio/) pages for more detail.

# Window Insect Screens NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/window-screens/
Serene retractable and MagicSeal magnetic window insect screens, made to measure in our Tauranga workshop and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ made in Tauranga
- Up to 2.5 m - Serene retractable span
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Professional fit - Service arranged through Phantom NZ
FAQs:
Q: What window types can Phantom Screens fit?
A: Almost all - awning, casement, sliding, double-hung, louvre, and bifold windows can be screened with our Serene retractable system, and many angled skylights too.
Q: How does the Serene retractable screen work?
A: Serene pulls down smoothly inside slim side tracks, locks in place, and retracts into a discreet cassette when not needed.
Q: Can you colour-match my frames?
A: Yes. Phantom Screens NZ colour-matches Serene hardware to Dulux powder coats to suit your joinery - see the colour options guide.
Q: Do you install or just supply?
A: Every window screen is custom-built in Tauranga, with professional measurement, installation, service, and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ. We take on larger projects nationwide by arrangement. See all the areas we install in.
Q: How much do window screens cost?
A: Pricing depends on size and mesh type. Send photos and rough sizes and we will come back with an indicative price.
Q: How do Phantom window screens compare to cheaper screens?
A: The difference is in the hardware and the finish. Serene retractable screens run on slim aluminium side tracks colour-matched to your joinery, with a smooth-retracting cassette built to be used every day for years, and Phantom-made screens carry our limited lifetime warranty with replaceable mesh. A lot of the difference is the internal componentry - on a quality screen the cords run over a brass wheel rather than through a drilled hole, and the springs last (we have screens on Beach Road still operating after 17 years). The easiest check is the feel: a cheaper screen feels flimsy or clunky to operate, often rattles, and uses a lot of plastic parts. We will be upfront about which option makes sense for your home.
Q: What is the largest window you can screen?
A: Serene retractable window screens are made to measure up to 2.5 m wide, and 2.2 m high in standard insect mesh or 2.0 m high in the solar and privacy meshes. For openings larger than that we use a door-style system instead - send your sizes and we will confirm the right product.
Q: Can you screen a skylight?
A: Often, yes. The Serene retractable screen suits many skylights, as long as the skylight sits on an angle - the screen needs some pitch to run on, so flat roof windows are not suitable. Send a photo of your skylight through the quote form and we will confirm whether it can be screened.
Q: How long does it take to get my window screens?
A: Every screen is custom-made to measure, so the lead time depends on the product and the time of year - we confirm a firm timeframe when you accept your quote. The install itself is usually completed in a single visit.
Q: What care and maintenance is needed?
A: A seasonal vacuum of the mesh plus a damp-cloth wipe of the tracks and cassette keeps a Serene running smoothly. Mesh cartridges are replaceable and parts are serviceable long-term. The full routine is in our care guide.
## Why Kiwis choose Phantom window screens
- Fresh air through open windows, with the insects kept out
- Solar mesh to cut glare and heat where you need it
- Insect-free ventilation for bedrooms and living spaces
- Made to measure, colour-matched, and professionally installed
## Serene and Blockout options
Our Serene retractable and MagicSeal magnetic window screens are made to measure
in our Tauranga workshop. Final measurement, professional installation, service,
and aftercare are arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
**Serene Retractable Window Screen** - pull-down retractable mesh for awning,
casement, sliding, and double-hung windows. Colour-matched fascia and trims,
sized to the millimetre, with optional midge mesh or solar mesh for coastal
locations.
**Serene 100% Blockout** - the same Serene hardware paired with blackout
fabric, perfect for bedrooms and media rooms. It provides full light exclusion
and privacy. Not an insect screen, but an optional upgrade on the same
cassette system.
## Mesh and finish options
- **Standard insect mesh (18x14)** - balanced airflow and insect protection
for most inland homes.
- **Midge mesh (18x18 no-see-um)** - tighter weave for sandflies and midges around
estuaries and coastal areas.
- **Solar or privacy mesh** - metallised mesh that reduces heat and glare
while keeping views.
- **Powder-coat colours** - Serene hardware colour-matched to your joinery from the Dulux range, Matt as standard, with custom available.
The [mesh options guide](/guides/mesh-options/) compares every weave - openness
percentages included - and says which meshes the Serene cassette can take.
## Retrofit or new build
Most Serene installs are retrofitted to aluminium joinery with neat trims that
complement the frame. Timber details or recessed installs are coordinated with
your builder. Magnetic panels adhere to most substrates, making them ideal for
rentals and character homes.

This sits alongside the Consumer Guarantees Act. Specific terms for a specified or commercial job can be provided on request.
## Specification support for your project
Phantom Screens New Zealand works with architects, designers, and builders to
specify retractable insect screens for doors or windows, and patio or outdoor
blinds. We can be involved from concept or detail design, advising on span
limits, recesses, wiring, and specifications so the screens integrate cleanly
into the build.
## Product data and downloads
Each system has its own span limits, cassette sizes, and mesh or fabric options.
Specification and product brochures for each system are available to download
below. CAD, 3D models, Revit/BIM families, and NZ-specific metric drawings are
available on request - contact us with your project. The [door screens](/door-screens/),
[window screens](/window-screens/), and [outdoor blinds](/outdoor-blinds/) pages
cover the consumer-facing detail.
## Installation and detailing
Most installs are retrofitted to existing joinery, but on new builds we
coordinate recessed cassette and side-channel details with your joiner or
builder, and wiring runs for motorised outdoor blinds with your electrician.
For frameless corner openings the Brio bi-fold can meet without a corner post,
and cassettes can be recessed into a prepared cavity so the hardware sits flush -
recessed-cavity and carriage-support drawings are in the downloads below.
## Finishes and warranty
Hardware is typically powder-coated in the Dulux range - 20 standard colours, or
a custom match for a small surcharge. See the [colour options guide](/guides/colour-options/)
for the standard range. Screens we make carry a limited lifetime parts warranty,
with installation labour covered for 24 months. On Executive motorised screens,
motors are covered for 5 years and electrical components, including remotes and
receivers, for 1 year. Mesh is a wear item and excluded, but it is replaceable and
serviceable. For Brio 612, Allegion provides 5 years of mechanical cover for
interior installations and 1 year for exterior installations. Our manual Ziptrak
installs use genuine system components backed for 5 years through the retailer,
while Visiontex mesh, when specified, has a 10-year performance warranty subject to
its conditions. All of this sits alongside
the Consumer Guarantees Act, and specific terms for a specified or commercial job
are available on request.
## Detailing options
Captured edge door screens (MeshLock and Wall Screen technical systems) carry a few detailing
options specified at order. The latch stop - the slide-bar latch that holds the
screen closed - can sit front-of-slidebar or back-of-slidebar to suit how the
screen meets the jamb or a paired screen, with the plastic component colour
matched to the hardware. For most openings the standard configuration is what we
fit; where a particular layout needs it, note the detail with your order or send
it through and we will confirm at the measure-up.
## Talk to us about a specification
Send your project details and drawings through the [quote form](/quote/) and note that it
is a specification enquiry - we will route it to the right person.

- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty (Phantom-made)
- Colour-matched - To the Dulux range
FAQs:
Q: Can you screen my bi-fold doors?
A: Almost always, yes. Bi-folds open the whole wall, so the screen has to span the full opening and then get out of the way. Captured edge door screens and Brio 612 Pleated Screen handle openings up to about 9 m - each screen covers up to about 4.5 m, and on wider runs two screens meet in the middle (Captured edge figures are with standard insect mesh; mesh and height limits apply). We select the housing to suit the opening.
Q: What is the difference between the captured edge screen and Brio 612 for a bi-fold?
A: The captured edge screen is a retractable cassette - spring-assisted, with the mesh retained in its tracks, stopping points you can set along the opening, and a quick-release latch. Brio 612 is a pleated panel with no spring tension - it stays wherever you leave it and has a lower profile because there is no cassette, plus a post-less corner option. Both can be recessed: the captured edge screen has recessed track and channel profiles, and Brio 612 has a fully pocketed option for new builds. We will recommend the better fit for your opening.
Q: Do I have to fold the screen back every time I open the doors?
A: No. The screen sits to the side when you are not using it - retracted into a slim cassette for the captured edge screen, or folded into a slim pleat stack for Brio 612 - so the bi-folds work as normal and the opening stays clear.
Q: Can a screen be retrofitted to my existing bi-folds?
A: Usually, yes, with a tidy surface-mounted finish to the existing joinery. On new builds we coordinate the recess details with your joiner or builder so the cassette or pleat pocket disappears into the frame.
Q: How does it handle wind across such a wide opening?
A: Captured edge screens keep the mesh zipped into the top and bottom tracks. Brio uses tensioning cords. We check the exposure and explain how to operate and care for the selected screen.
## Best fit for bi-fold doors
A bi-fold folds right back to open an entire wall, so a fixed screen would
defeat the point. The screen has to cover the full span and then get out of the
way. Two Phantom systems do exactly that, screening bi-fold openings up to
about 9 m: with standard insect mesh a single screen covers up to about
4.5 m, and two screens meet in the middle for wider runs. The captured edge screen keeps the mesh retained
in its tracks; Brio 612 is a pleated screen with a light, easy action and a
post-less corner option.
## Captured edge or Brio 612 Pleated Screen?
The choice depends on the opening, mesh and operation you prefer. Both offer
recessed options, with different size limits for each configuration. The captured edge screen is spring-assisted: it retracts back
into its cassette on release, with stopping points you can set and a
quick-release latch, and its recessed track and channel options hide the
housing in a new build. Brio 612 has no spring tension - the pleated panel
stays exactly where you leave it - and sits lower-profile because there is no
cassette, with a fully pocketed option for new builds. See the system
comparison on our [door screens](/door-screens/) page.
## Mesh and finish
Standard insect mesh suits most homes, midge mesh suits coastal and estuary
properties, and pet mesh on compatible captured edge units resists light damage from small pets - see our [mesh options](/guides/mesh-options/) for every weave and
which screens carry it. Hardware is powder-coated and colour-matched to the
Dulux range so the cassette or pleat housing blends into your joinery - see
[colour options](/guides/colour-options/).
Brio 612 Pleated Screen uses dedicated pleated mesh and has no pet-mesh option.
For captured edge size limits by mesh and height, see the [door range specifications](/door-screens/).

# Fly Screens for French Doors NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/door-screens/french-doors/
Retractable fly screens for French doors - one screen across the pair with no bars in the middle, or a cassette each side. Professionally installed.
Key facts:
- One screen - Across the pair - no bars in the middle
- Up to ~1.2 m - Per door with a cassette each side
- NZ owned - Made to measure
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Colour-matched - To the Dulux range
FAQs:
Q: Can you screen a pair of French doors?
A: Yes, two ways. Most customers prefer a single screen drawn right across the pair - there are no bars down the middle of the opening, which keeps the view clear. A 60 mm captured edge screen covers pairs to about 2.0 m, and we often use an 80 mm captured edge unit or Brio 612 Pleated Screen on wider pairs. The other option is a cassette at each jamb, with the two screens meeting in the middle.
Q: Do the screens get in the way of opening both doors?
A: No. The screen retracts into a slim cassette at the jamb - one cassette for a single screen across the pair, or one at each side - so you can open one door or both and the screens stay out of the way until you want them.
Q: Will screens spoil the look of French doors?
A: No. The cassettes are slim and powder-coated to colour-match your joinery, and the high-visibility mesh keeps the light and the view that make French doors worth having.
Q: Can screens be retrofitted to existing French doors?
A: Almost always. Most installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium or timber joinery with neat surface mounting. Send a photo and rough sizes and we will confirm fit and an indicative price.
Q: How do French-door screens handle wind?
A: Captured edge screens keep the mesh zipped into the top and bottom tracks, which resists the blow-outs that catch loose-hanging screens in a gust.
## Best fit for French doors
French doors open up a room beautifully, and a retractable screen lets you keep
them open through summer without insects coming in. Most customers prefer one
screen drawn right across the pair: there are no bars down the middle of the
opening, so the view stays clear - especially worth it when the doors frame an
outlook. A 60 mm captured edge screen covers pairs to about 2.0 m, and we often fit the
80 mm captured edge unit or Brio 612 Pleated Screen across wider pairs. Where a single screen does
not suit, a cassette fits at each jamb and the two screens meet in the middle.
Either way the screens disappear when you are not using them. For a single
hinged door, see [hinged door screens](/door-screens/hinged/).
## Mesh and finish
The captured edge mesh choices are: standard insect mesh for most homes, midge mesh
for coastal and estuary properties, and pet mesh for households with dogs
and cats - see our [mesh options](/guides/mesh-options/) for every weave.
Hardware is powder-coated and colour-matched to the Dulux range so the cassettes
blend into your joinery - see [colour options](/guides/colour-options/). See the
system comparison on our [door screens](/door-screens/) page.
Brio 612 Pleated Screen uses dedicated pleated mesh and has no pet-mesh option.
For captured edge size limits by mesh and height, see the [door range specifications](/door-screens/).

# Fly Screens for Hinged Doors NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/door-screens/hinged/
Retractable fly screens for single hinged front and back doors, custom-made to fit and professionally installed through Phantom Screens NZ.
Key facts:
- Up to ~1.2 m - Typical single-door span
- Retained mesh - Held in-track against gusts
- NZ owned - Made to measure
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Colour-matched - To the Dulux range
FAQs:
Q: Do fly screens on hinged doors actually stop insects?
A: Yes. The mesh seals the opening when extended, so flies, mosquitoes, and spiders stay outside while the door stands open for airflow.
Q: Can a screen be fitted to my existing hinged door?
A: Almost always. Most installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy surface-mounted cassette. Send a photo and rough size and we will confirm fit and an indicative price.
Q: Will the screen block the view or make the doorway darker?
A: No. Standard insect mesh is high-visibility, and the screen retracts fully into its slim cassette when you are not using it, leaving the doorway completely clear.
Q: How does the screen handle wind?
A: Captured edge screens keep the mesh zipped into the top and bottom tracks, which resists the blow-outs that catch loose-hanging screens in a gust.
Q: What maintenance does a hinged-door screen need?
A: A seasonal vacuum of the mesh and a damp-cloth wipe of the tracks keeps it running smoothly. Mesh cartridges are replaceable if one is ever damaged. The full routine is in our care guide.
## Best fit for hinged doors
Hinged front and back doors are the most common opening we screen. A Phantom
captured edge cassette mounts neatly to the frame, the mesh stays
retained in its tracks for everyday durability, and the whole screen
disappears when you are not using it. Screening a pair of doors? See
[French door screens](/door-screens/french-doors/) - one screen across the
pair, or a cassette each side.
## Mesh and finish
Choose standard insect mesh for most homes, midge
mesh for coastal and estuary properties, and pet mesh for households with dogs
and cats. Pet mesh resists light damage and is not a containment barrier. See our [mesh options](/guides/mesh-options/) for every weave.
Hardware is powder-coated and colour-matched to the Dulux range so the
cassette blends into your joinery - see [colour options](/guides/colour-options/).

# Retractable screens for ranch sliders and wide openings
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/door-screens/ranch-slider/
Retractable fly screens for ranch sliders, sliding and stacking doors. Made to measure for openings up to about 9 m and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- Retrofit - Fits existing aluminium joinery
- Retained mesh - Held in-track against gusts
- NZ owned - Made to measure
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty (Phantom-made)
- Colour-matched - To the Dulux range
FAQs:
Q: Can you screen my ranch slider?
A: Almost always, yes. Ranch sliders are one of the most common openings we screen. Our captured edge range has 45, 60 and 80 mm housings. The 60 mm unit reaches 2.0 m wide; the 80 mm reaches 4.5 m per screen with standard mesh and suitable height. Two suitable units can meet across a wider opening. Send a photo and rough sizes so we can recommend the fit.
Q: Can a screen be retrofitted to my existing ranch slider?
A: Yes - most ranch-slider installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy surface-mounted cassette, so there is no need to change your doors.
Q: Will the screen block the view or the breeze?
A: No. The mesh is high-visibility, so daylight and your outlook stay largely unchanged, and air flows straight through. The screen retracts fully into a slim cassette at the jamb when you are not using it.
Q: How does a ranch-slider screen handle wind?
A: Captured edge screens keep the mesh zipped into the top and bottom tracks, which resists the blow-outs that catch loose-hanging screens - useful on the exposed openings ranch sliders often serve.
Q: We have a dog and a cat - is there a tougher mesh?
A: Pet mesh can resist light damage from small pets on compatible captured edge screens. It is not pet-proof or a containment barrier. Brio has no pet-mesh option.
Q: Do you screen sliding and stacking doors too?
A: Yes. A ranch slider is the most common version, but the same systems cover wider multi-panel sliders and stacker doors up to about 9 m - one 80 mm captured edge screen spans up to about 4.5 m with standard insect mesh, and two screens meet in the middle of a very wide opening.
## Best fit for ranch sliders
The aluminium ranch slider is the classic Kiwi patio door, and it is one of the
most common openings we screen. A retractable screen retrofits to the existing
joinery, so the doors you already have keep working - you just gain the option
to leave them open through summer without flies, mosquitoes, or spiders coming
in. Our captured edge range covers small and wide openings, with 45, 60 or
80 mm housings selected for the span, height and mesh. The mesh is zipped into
the top and bottom tracks, then rolls away beside the frame when not needed.
## Sliding and stacking doors
A ranch slider is New Zealand's everyday sliding door - two panels, with one
sliding panel crossing a fixed one. The same screens cover wider configurations:
multi-panel sliders and stacker doors, where two or more panels slide and stack
to one side. For these, openings up to about 9 m are screenable - with standard insect
mesh a single 80 mm captured edge screen carries up to about 4.5 m, and two screens meet in
the middle of a very wide opening.
If your doors fold right back rather than slide, see our
[bi-fold door screens](/door-screens/bifold/).
## Mesh and finish
Choose mesh to suit the opening and system: standard insect mesh for most
homes, midge mesh for coastal and estuary properties, and pet mesh for
households with dogs and cats using the door every day - see our
[mesh options](/guides/mesh-options/) for every weave. Hardware is
powder-coated and colour-matched to the Dulux range so the cassette
blends into your joinery - see [colour options](/guides/colour-options/). See
the system comparison on our [door screens](/door-screens/) page.
## What affects the price?
The clear opening width and height, screen system, mesh, colour, access and
number of openings all affect the quote. A wide stacker with two screens is
not the same configuration as a single everyday ranch slider. We confirm
installation details and the final price before manufacture.
## Photos to send
Send one photo of the whole doorway, one of the handle and frame, and one of
the bottom track. Include the approximate clear opening width and height,
your town, and whether pets use the door. You do not need to take final manufacturing measurements.
Brio 612 Pleated Screen uses dedicated pleated mesh and has no pet-mesh option.
For captured edge size limits by mesh and height, see the [door range specifications](/door-screens/).
## Getting a price
Send a photo of the slider and a rough opening size through the [quote form](/quote/) and
we will come back with an indicative price - we only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.

# Outdoor Mesh Blinds NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/outdoor-blinds/mesh/
Outdoor mesh blinds for decks and patios - insect mesh for airflow and bug control, or solar mesh for shade. Made to measure and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- Insect + solar - Two mesh fabrics
- Keeps airflow - Breeze through, bugs out
- Up to 12 m - Single-screen span (Executive)
- Since 1999 - NZ owned
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
FAQs:
Q: What is the difference between insect mesh and solar mesh outdoors?
A: Insect mesh keeps flies, mosquitoes, and sandflies off the deck while letting the breeze through. Solar mesh (E-Screen) is a much tighter weave that cuts glare and UV and gives daytime privacy while still reading as a screen, not a wall.
Q: Do mesh blinds keep the wind and rain out?
A: Mesh blinds take the edge off wind and light blown rain while keeping airflow. For full weather protection - sideways rain and winter use - choose clear PVC blinds instead.
Q: Are mesh blinds good for coastal decks?
A: Yes. Insect mesh keeps the sandflies and midges off a coastal or estuary deck, and the captured side channels hold the fabric firm in the wind.
Q: Can I see out through the mesh?
A: Yes. Insect mesh is high-visibility, and solar mesh keeps the view while softening glare - you keep your outlook either way.
## Outdoor blinds that breathe
Mesh outdoor blinds enclose a deck or patio while keeping the air moving. Insect
mesh keeps flies, mosquitoes, and sandflies out so you can eat outside into the
evening; solar mesh cuts glare and UV on a hot, north-facing patio while keeping
your view and adding daytime privacy.
## Insect mesh or solar mesh?
Choose insect mesh where bugs are the problem - bush and coastal decks, summer
evenings. Choose solar mesh where sun and glare are the problem - exposed,
north-facing patios. Many homes mix both across different aspects. See our
[mesh and fabric options](/guides/mesh-options/) to compare every weave
and fabric across our range. For full weather protection, see
[clear PVC blinds](/outdoor-blinds/pvc/).

indicative price - no visit needed to get started. We only book a measure-up

# Motorised Outdoor Blinds NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/outdoor-blinds/motorised/
Motorised outdoor blinds with remote, wall, or home-automation control. Insect and solar mesh or clear PVC - made to measure and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- SIMU / Somfy / Alpha - Motors with remote + sensors
- Up to 12 m - Largest single screen
- Zip-guided - Captured side channels
- Since 1999 - NZ owned
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
FAQs:
Q: How are motorised outdoor blinds controlled?
A: Alpha motors as standard (SIMU or Somfy on request) let you use a handheld remote, a wall switch, or home automation to raise and lower the blinds. Optional sun and wind sensors can also move them automatically, and SmartStop automatic braking is standard.
Q: Why choose motorised over manual?
A: Large outdoor blinds are heavy to move by hand, so motorisation is the easy choice for wide spans, multiple screens, or high or hard-to-reach openings. The hand-operated Ziptrak suits smaller spans and off-grid sites.
Q: Can the blinds drop automatically with the sun or wind?
A: Yes. Optional sun and wind sensors can lower the blinds for shade or raise them in a gust to protect the fabric, with no input from you.
Q: Do they need wiring?
A: Motorised blinds need a power supply to the motor. We coordinate the wiring run with your electrician on new builds, and find a tidy route on retrofits.
Q: How do they handle wind?
A: Captured side channels retain the fabric, but operating limits depend on size, fabric, exposure and fixings. Retract before severe weather and do not force a screen against wind pressure. We explain the guidance for your installation; an optional wind sensor can help retract it as wind rises.
Q: What warranty do they come with?
A: Motors carry a 5-year warranty. Electrical components, including remotes and receivers, carry a 1-year warranty. Installation labour is covered for 24 months, alongside our limited lifetime warranty on parts. Mesh and fabric are wear items, so they are excluded from the warranty but stay serviceable and replaceable. This sits alongside your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
## Effortless outdoor blinds
Motorised outdoor blinds turn a deck or patio into a room you actually use -
drop them for shade, insects, or weather at the push of a button, and raise them
to open the space back up. You control them by remote, wall switch, or home
automation, and optional sun and wind sensors can do it for you.
## When motorised is worth it
Large outdoor blinds are heavy, so anything wide, tall, or hard to reach is far
nicer motorised. Multiple screens around a wrap-around deck operate together,
and sensors keep them working while you are out. For smaller spans or off-grid
sites, see [manual outdoor blinds](/outdoor-blinds/manual/).
## Getting a price
Send photos and rough sizes of the opening through the [quote form](/quote/) for an
indicative price - no visit needed to get started. We only book a measure-up

# Clear PVC Outdoor Blinds NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/outdoor-blinds/pvc/
Clear PVC outdoor blinds (cafe blinds) for decks and patios - block wind and rain while keeping the view. Made to measure and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- Crystal clear - Keeps the view
- Weatherproof - Blocks wind and rain
- Wide spans - 180 mm housing, fabric-dependent
- Since 1999 - NZ owned
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
FAQs:
Q: What do clear PVC outdoor blinds do?
A: Clear PVC blinds enclose a deck or patio against wind and rain while keeping your view - so you can use the space in winter and bad weather. They also help hold warmth from an outdoor heater.
Q: Will PVC blinds keep the rain out?
A: Yes. Tensioned in the captured side channels, clear PVC blocks wind-driven rain far better than mesh, turning a covered deck into a usable all-weather room.
Q: Do clear PVC blinds get condensation?
A: Some condensation can form when it is cold and damp outside and warm inside the enclosure, as with any clear panel. Leaving a small gap for airflow or lifting a blind briefly clears it.
Q: Can I get tinted PVC for privacy?
A: Our PVC range is clear, for maximum view and weather protection. When you want daytime privacy or glare control, a solar or Visiontex mesh is the right tool - it cuts glare and heat while still letting you see out.
## All-weather outdoor blinds
Clear PVC outdoor blinds - often called cafe blinds - turn a covered deck or
patio into a room you can use all year. Tensioned in the side channels, the
crystal-clear panels block wind and driving rain while keeping your view, and
they help hold the warmth from an outdoor heater on a cold night.
## When to choose PVC over mesh
Choose clear PVC where weather is the problem - exposed decks, winter use,
sideways rain, and hospitality spaces that need to stay open in all conditions.
Where insects or glare are the issue and you want airflow, choose
[mesh blinds](/outdoor-blinds/mesh/) instead. Many homes combine PVC on the
weather side with mesh elsewhere.
## Looking after clear PVC
Clean with warm water and a soft cloth, not a water blaster, and never Rain-X
or solvent. Let the panel dry before rolling it up so it does not crease, and
roll it down again on calm days rather than leaving it furled for months.
## Getting a price
Send photos and rough sizes of the opening through the [quote form](/quote/) for an
indicative price - no visit needed to get started. We only book a measure-up

# Magnetic Window Screens NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/window-screens/magnetic/
Removable magnetic window insect screens - the budget, rental-friendly option, made to measure and professionally installed through Phantom Screens NZ.
Key facts:
- Measured + fitted - Professionally installed
- MagicSeal - The budget magnetic brand we supply
- Made to measure - Sized to your window
- Since 1999 - Phantom Screens NZ
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
FAQs:
Q: How do I buy magnetic window screens?
A: Send photos and rough sizes through the quote form. We will confirm whether MagicSeal or Serene is the better fit, provide an indicative price, and arrange final measurement and professional fitting through Phantom Screens NZ.
Q: When is a magnetic screen the right choice?
A: Magnetic screens suit rentals, smaller or awkward windows, tight clearances, and tighter budgets. They lift off in seconds for cleaning or to open the window fully, and leave no permanent fixings - ideal where you cannot or do not want to drill.
Q: How do magnetic window screens fit?
A: A thin magnetic strip fixes around the window frame and the screen panel snaps onto it. The removable panel lifts off for cleaning or full access to the window, then locates back onto the strip. Final measurement and fitting are arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
Q: How do they compare to a Serene retractable screen?
A: Serene is our own retractable screen, professionally installed, retracting into a slim cassette and suited to larger openings - it is the option we lead with. MagicSeal magnetic screens are the budget alternative: removable by hand, professionally fitted, and roughly a third cheaper. They also work where a Serene head box will not fit, such as a window behind a ranch slider. See our retractable window screens for the premium installed option.
## Magnetic window screens
Our magnetic window screens are MagicSeal - a budget, rental-friendly brand we
offer as a removable alternative to the installed
[Serene retractable](/window-screens/retractable/). It is a
made-to-measure mesh panel with a magnetic perimeter that snaps onto a thin
strip around your window frame. Once we confirm it is the right product, final
measurement and professional fitting are arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
## When magnetic is the right answer
Magnetic screens are the smart choice when a fixed installed screen is not what
you need:
- **Tight clearances** - where a Serene head box will not fit, such as a window
set behind a ranch slider.
- **Budget** - roughly a third cheaper than the installed Serene screen.
- **Rentals** - no permanent fixings, so they come off cleanly when you move.
- **Easy cleaning** - lift the panel off by hand and pop it back on.
For larger windows or a permanent, retract-into-a-cassette finish, the
professionally installed
[Serene retractable screen](/window-screens/retractable/) is the better fit.
## Getting magnetic screens
[Enquire](/quote/) with a few photos of your windows and we will confirm
whether MagicSeal is the right call, provide an indicative price, and arrange
final measurement and professional fitting - or talk through the Serene option
if it suits better.

# Retractable Window Screens NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/window-screens/retractable/
Serene retractable window insect screens - pull-down mesh that retracts into a slim cassette, custom-made in Tauranga and professionally installed.
Key facts:
- Up to 2.5 m - Serene retractable span
- Retracts away - Into a slim cassette
- Since 1999 - NZ made in Tauranga
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Colour-matched - To the Dulux range
FAQs:
Q: How does the Serene retractable window screen work?
A: Serene pulls down smoothly inside slim side tracks, locks in place when you want insect protection, and retracts into a discreet cassette at the top of the window when you do not - so there is no screen on show when it is not needed.
Q: Which windows can take a Serene retractable screen?
A: Awning, casement, sliding, double-hung, and louvre windows all suit Serene. Send a photo and rough sizes and we will confirm the fit and span for your windows.
Q: Can you colour-match the screen to my joinery?
A: Yes. The Serene hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range, with popular standard colours plus custom for a small surcharge, confirmed at the measure-up - so the cassette and tracks blend into your window frames.
Q: Can a Serene screen be retrofitted to my existing windows?
A: Almost always. Most installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with neat trims; on new builds we coordinate recess details with your builder or joiner.
Q: Can a Serene screen go wider than the standard sizes?
A: Serene is made to 2.5 m wide, which covers almost every window, and to 2.2 m high in standard insect mesh or 2.0 m high in the solar and privacy meshes. Wider openings than that go to a door-style system instead - talk to us at the measure-up and we will advise honestly what suits your window.
## The premium retractable window screen
The Serene retractable window screen pulls down inside slim side tracks for
insect protection, then retracts into a discreet cassette when you do not need
it - so your window looks unscreened when the screen is away. The cassette has a
slim, softly rounded profile that sits neatly against the frame, rather than the
boxier look of bulkier screens. It is measured, custom-made at our Tauranga
workshop, and professionally installed, with service and aftercare arranged
through Phantom Screens NZ. The hardware is colour-matched to your joinery.
## Mesh and finish
Serene takes the full mesh range: standard insect mesh for most homes, midge
mesh for coastal and estuary properties, and solar/privacy mesh that cuts heat
and glare while softening the view in. See all the choices on our
[mesh options](/guides/mesh-options/) page.
The hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range - the 20 standard
colours cover most homes, with custom for a small surcharge. See
[colour options](/guides/colour-options/).
## Getting a price
Send photos and rough window sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) for an indicative
price - no visit needed to get started. We only book a measure-up once you're
happy with the solution and product.

# Choosing screens for pets that jump or climb
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/pet-friendly-screens/anti-jump/
Compare pet-resistant insect mesh and its limits. Tell us about your pet and doorway for advice on a made-to-measure retractable screen.

# Insect Screen Doors NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/door-screens/insect-screen-doors/
Retractable insect screen doors made to measure for ranch sliders, sliding, bi-fold, hinged and French doors. Professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: Do insect screen doors stop flies and mosquitoes?
A: Yes. The mesh seals the doorway when extended, so flies, mosquitoes, and spiders stay outside while your door stands open for fresh air.
Q: Can an insect screen be fitted to my existing door?
A: Almost always. Most of our installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy surface-mounted cassette. Send a photo and a rough opening size and we will confirm fit and an indicative price.
Q: What door types can you screen?
A: Hinged doors, sliding and stacking doors, ranch sliders, French doors, and bifolds. Openings up to about 9 m are covered with our captured edge range - up to ~4.5 m per screen with standard insect mesh, two meeting in the middle.
Q: Do insect screen doors block the view or the light?
A: No. Standard insect mesh is high-visibility, so daylight and views stay largely unchanged - and the screen retracts fully into its cassette when you are not using it.
Q: How much does an insect screen door cost?
A: Every screen is made to measure, so price depends on the opening size, screen type, and mesh. Send photos and rough sizes through the quote form for an indicative price - we only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
## Retractable insect screen doors, made to measure
An insect screen door lets you leave the door open on a summer evening
without inviting the flies in. Ours are retractable - the mesh pulls across
when you want it and disappears into a slim cassette when you do not - and
every screen is custom-made to fit your exact opening.
Choose from two approaches: **Captured edge door screens**, with mesh zipped
into the top and bottom tracks and a cassette sized for your opening, or
**Brio 612 Pleated Screen**, which folds to the side and stays where you leave it.
See the full comparison on our [door screens](/door-screens/) page, or jump
straight to [front and back doors](/door-screens/hinged/) and
[ranch sliders and sliding doors](/door-screens/ranch-slider/).
## Which doors we can screen
Most homes have us retrofit to existing aluminium joinery with a tidy
surface-mounted cassette, so there is no need to replace the door:
- **Hinged and single doors** - a captured edge door screen suits standard
entry and laundry doors. See [front and back doors](/door-screens/hinged/).
- **Ranch sliders and sliding doors** - the classic two-panel slider plus wider
multi-panel sliders and stackers, openings to about 9 m (standard insect
mesh). See
[ranch slider and sliding door screens](/door-screens/ranch-slider/).
- **Bi-fold doors** - captured edge or Brio 612 Pleated Screen spans the full
fold-back opening. See [bi-fold door screens](/door-screens/bifold/).
- **French doors** - one screen across the pair (no bars in the middle), or a
cassette each side. See [French door screens](/door-screens/french-doors/).
- **Architectural and new builds** - both captured edge screens and Brio 612 Pleated Screen can be recessed or pocketed into the build; Brio 612 is the
lower-profile specifier option with no cassette.
## Mesh and colour to suit the opening
The standard insect mesh is high-visibility, so it keeps flies, mosquitoes, and
spiders out while leaving your light and view largely unchanged. Coastal and
estuary homes can step up to a tighter midge mesh for sandflies and midges, and
households with pets can ask about pet mesh on compatible captured edge screens.
Brio has its own pleated mesh and no pet-mesh option. The hardware is powder-coated
and colour-matched to your joinery, confirmed against a physical sample at the
measure-up. Warranty cover depends on the product. See our
[warranty guide](/warranty/).
## How it works
Send photos and rough sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) and we will come back with
an indicative price, usually without a visit. Happy with the solution and product? We
arrange precise measurement, made-to-measure manufacture, and professional installation.
Service and aftercare are arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.

# Manual Outdoor Blinds NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/outdoor-blinds/manual/
Manual Ziptrak outdoor blinds in insect mesh, solar mesh or PVC - the hand-operated, no-power option, made to measure and professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: How do manual outdoor blinds operate?
A: Our manual option is the Ziptrak track-guided system: the blind glides up and down by hand on tensioned side tracks and holds at intermediate heights in calm conditions. There is no motor, no wiring, and nothing to power - which also makes it the pick for off-grid homes and tighter budgets.
Q: When should I choose manual over motorised?
A: Manual suits smaller spans, openings you adjust occasionally rather than daily, and sites where running power to the cassette is not practical. For wide or heavy screens - and anything you will move twice a day - choose the separate motorised Phantom Executive system.
Q: Do manual blinds handle wind as well as motorised ones?
A: Wind performance comes from the captured Ziptrak side channels rather than a motor. For exposed sites we assess the opening, fabric, fixings, and whether manual Ziptrak or the separate Executive system is suitable.
Q: What fabrics are available for manual outdoor blinds?
A: Insect mesh for airflow, solar and Visiontex fabrics for shade and daytime privacy, or clear PVC for shelter. Availability depends on the installation. Pet mesh is not available on manual Ziptrak.
Q: How much do manual outdoor blinds cost?
A: Manual operation avoids the cost of motors and wiring, so it is the budget-friendly way into outdoor blinds. Send photos and rough sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price.
## Manual outdoor blinds: the Ziptrak track-guided option
Not every outdoor blind needs a motor. Every Phantom Executive screen is
motorised, so when you want a hand-operated blind we fit Ziptrak - a
track-guided system that glides up and down by hand and locks at any
height. You still get a made-to-measure fabric panel, captured side channels
that retain the fabric, and a choice of insect mesh, solar mesh, or clear
PVC - without wiring, remotes, or anything to go flat.
Ziptrak is our secondary, budget option: it suits smaller spans and openings
you adjust now and then. As a rule we spec Ziptrak up to about 4 m wide - for
wider openings, or a big screen you raise and lower every day, the motorised
[Phantom Executive](/outdoor-blinds/) is worth it.

## Using Ziptrak in wind
Keep the blind fully retracted or fully down and locked in windy conditions.
Retract it fully before very strong winds, storms or severe weather. Do not
leave it halfway down or force it against wind pressure. These are the
[manufacturer’s operating instructions](https://www.ziptrak.com.au/faq/can-i-leave-the-blinds-down-on-windy-days/).
Size, fabric and fixings affect the installation; laboratory strength tests
are not a safe operating wind rating for your blind.
## How it works
Send photos and rough sizes of the opening through the [quote form](/quote/) and we will
come back with an indicative price, usually without a visit. Happy with the
number? We measure precisely, have your screens made to measure, and install with
professional installers. Service and aftercare are arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.

# Patio Blinds NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/outdoor-blinds/patio/
Patio blinds in insect mesh, solar mesh or clear PVC, motorised or manual. Made to measure and professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: Can patio blinds fully enclose an open patio?
A: Yes. Executive screens descend from a cassette and travel in side channels that seal the opening. Multiple screens link together for wrap-around patios and decks across wide openings.
Q: Which fabric should I choose for a patio?
A: Insect mesh keeps airflow and stops flies and mosquitoes - the pick for dining areas. Solar mesh adds glare control and daytime privacy on north-facing patios. Clear PVC closes the space against wind and rain for year-round use.
Q: Are patio blinds motorised or manual?
A: The Executive is motorised, run from a remote or wall switch - the right pick for the wide spans patios usually need. Where a manual blind suits the space or budget better, we fit a Ziptrak with a spring-balanced pull.
Q: How do patio blinds handle wind?
A: The captured zipper retention system locks the fabric into the side channels. For very exposed sites we specify heavier bottom bars, wind sensors, or the larger 180 mm housing.
Q: How much do patio blinds cost?
A: Every blind is made to measure, so price depends on the span, fabric, and operation. Send photos and rough sizes of the opening through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price.
## Patio blinds that keep the evening going
A patio blind turns an open patio into a usable room: insects stay out, glare
drops, and with PVC panels the space stays warm and dry after the sun goes
down. Our Executive screens are made to measure, run in captured side
channels so the fabric stays put in a gust, and couple side by side to enclose
a whole patio.
Choose insect mesh for airflow and bug control, solar mesh for shade and
daytime privacy, or clear PVC for weather protection - the full fabric
comparison is on our [outdoor blinds](/outdoor-blinds/) page.
## How it works
Send photos and rough sizes of your patio opening through the [quote form](/quote/) and
we will come back with an indicative price, usually without a visit. Happy with the solution and product? We measure precisely, have your
screens made to measure, and
arrange professional installation - most patio installs are completed within a day.

# Phantom Screens Auckland - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/auckland/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Auckland homes, made to measure and professionally installed. Indicative quote from your photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Auckland-wide - Professional installation
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens across Auckland?
A: Yes. Ryan Jury installs and services Phantom Screens across Auckland - from the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast through central, west, and east Auckland to Manukau.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
Q: Do you make screens for coastal Auckland homes?
A: Yes. For homes near the water we fit midge mesh, a tighter weave that keeps out the sandflies and midges common around Auckland's coast and estuaries. See the mesh options guide.
Q: Will salt air or humidity affect the screens?
A: The hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range for year-round outdoor use, so it stands up to Auckland's salt air and damp, humid summers. Near the coast, a seasonal fresh-water rinse of the hardware and tracks clears any salt and keeps the screen running smoothly.
Q: Do you install beyond the main Auckland suburbs?
A: We arrange professional installation across the wider Auckland area and upper North Island, and take on larger or architectural projects nationwide by arrangement - just ask.
## Insect screens for Auckland homes
Phantom Screens NZ fits retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and
outdoor blinds for homes right across Auckland. Open your doors and windows
through the summer for fresh air and indoor-outdoor flow, without flies,
mosquitoes, or spiders coming in. Every screen is made to measure and installed
professionally, with service and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
We have been NZ owned since 1999.
## Built for Auckland living
Auckland's humid summers and coastal suburbs make insect screens a sensible
addition. For homes near the water we fit midge mesh, a tighter weave that keeps
out the sandflies and midges, while the standard insect mesh keeps your light
and your view largely unchanged. Hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range and matched to your joinery, with the colour confirmed at the
measure-up so the cassettes sit quietly against the frame. For covered decks and
patios near the water, motorised [outdoor screens](/outdoor-blinds/) enclose the
space against sandflies, the sea breeze, and the glare of the afternoon sun.
Near the coast, a seasonal fresh-water rinse of the hardware and tracks clears
the salt and keeps everything running smoothly - see our
[care guide](/guides/care/).
## Architecturally specified, trusted worldwide
Trusted worldwide for more than three decades, Phantom screens are chosen for a
wide range of architectural openings - bi-folding panels, French doors, sliding
panels, and windows. Our fully retractable insect screens are ideal for
inclusion at the design stage or can be retrofitted to any suitable opening.
Easy to operate with one touch, the screen moves smoothly across the opening
and retracts discreetly into the frame when not in use.
## Getting an Auckland quote
Send photos and rough sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) for an indicative price - no
visit needed to get started. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with
the quote, then make and install your screens.
## Your screens installed by an aircraft engineer

years as an aircraft engineer with the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and brings
that same precision and attention to detail to every job - architecturally
specified retractable insect screens, pleated door screens, window screens, and
outdoor blinds, measured and fitted to last. Do it once, do it right.

your home through the Bay summer for fresh air without flies and mosquitoes,

## Built for the Bay of Plenty coast
Living near the coast and the estuaries means sandflies and midges, so we fit
midge mesh - a finer 18x18 weave - for coastal homes. The mesh holds your sea
and harbour views, and the hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range for year-round coastal use. For covered decks and patios near the water,
motorised [outdoor screens](/outdoor-blinds/) enclose the space against sandflies
and the sea breeze, and a seasonal fresh-water rinse of the hardware keeps

# Phantom Screens Katikati - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/katikati/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Katikati town and orchard homes. Made to measure and fitted by our own team - indicative quote from photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Katikati-wide - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Why do Katikati homes need insect screens?
A: Katikati's warm, sheltered microclimate between the Kaimai Range and Tauranga Harbour is exactly why the district grows so much fruit - and it gives flies, mosquitoes, and harbour midges a long season too. Between the orchards, the shelter belts, and the harbour edge, homes here see more insect traffic than most, so screens that let you leave doors and windows open earn their keep from spring right through autumn.
Q: Can you screen older Katikati homes as well as new builds?
A: Yes. Every screen is made to measure for its opening, so the older weatherboard homes around town are as straightforward as a new build in one of the subdivisions or an orchard homestead down a rural road. The cassette is slim and powder-coated to match your joinery, and the screen retracts fully out of sight when you are not using it.
Q: Do you install at Waihī Beach, Athenree, and Kauri Point?
A: Yes. Our Bay of Plenty team covers Katikati and the whole northern corridor - Tahawai, Athenree, Waihī Beach, and Kauri Point, plus the Aongatete side toward Tauranga. For homes near the estuary and the beach we fit a tighter midge mesh that holds out the sandflies and midges the standard weave lets through, while keeping the view.
## Insect screens for Katikati homes
Katikati sits between the Kaimai foothills and the northern reaches of Tauranga
Harbour, in some of the most sheltered growing country in the Bay of Plenty.
The warm, settled climate that suits the kiwifruit and avocado orchards suits
insects just as well, so doors and windows here need to hold out flies and
mosquitoes for a long stretch of the year. Phantom Screens NZ fits made-to-measure
retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds with our own
team - our workshop is in Tauranga, half an hour down the road,
and we are regularly in Katikati.
## Built for orchard country
New Zealand's mural town is first and foremost an orchard town. A lot of the
homes we screen around Katikati come with land - kiwifruit and avocado blocks
toward Aongatete and Tahawai, lifestyle properties off the back roads, and
homesteads tucked in behind shelter belts. Sheltered air and a packhouse
economy that runs on long growing seasons mean real insect pressure, and rural
homes built around ranchsliders, French doors, and wide awning windows give it
plenty of ways in. Our retractable screens are made for exactly those openings
and pull back out of sight when they are not needed. The standard 18x14 mesh
keeps the outlook over the block clear, and claw-resistant pet mesh stands up
to the orchard dogs that live at the back door.
## From the harbour edge to Waihī Beach
North of town the harbour narrows toward the Athenree estuary, with Waihī
Beach over the hill at the end of the corridor and Kauri Point out on the
harbour. Homes near the tidal flats and the beach see sandflies and midges
lift off the water on still evenings, and for those we fit a tighter midge
mesh in place of the standard weave. Baches and beach homes that open onto a
deck through sliders or bifolds suit our retractable door screens, which draw
across the wide opening and disappear again when the day cools off.
## Getting a Katikati quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/)
and we will come back with an indicative price - no one needs to drive out for
you to get started. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the
product and the price. In town, out on a block at Aongatete or Tahawai, or up
at Athenree and Waihī Beach, it is the same local team from first quote to

- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Mount & Papamoa - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens at the Mount and Papamoa?
A: Yes. Our Tauranga team installs retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds across Mount Maunganui, Papamoa, and the beachside suburbs.
Q: Do you fit bug screens that keep out sandflies and midges?
A: Yes. Beachside and estuary homes at the Mount and Papamoa get midge mesh - a tighter bug screen weave that keeps out the sandflies and midges the standard mesh lets through. See the mesh options guide.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
Q: Will salt air affect the screens?
A: The hardware is powder-coated for year-round outdoor use, and the mesh is built to last in coastal conditions. A seasonal rinse and vacuum keeps everything running smoothly near the beach.
## Insect screens for Mount Maunganui
Phantom Screens NZ has been New Zealand owned since 1999, and we install
retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds across Mount
Maunganui and Papamoa. Open up to the sea breeze through summer without
sandflies, midges, or mosquitoes getting in - screens are made to measure and
fitted by our own team. For the wider city, see our
[Tauranga page](/tauranga/).
## Built for beachside living
Homes near the beach and the estuary get midge mesh, a tighter bug screen weave

# Phantom Screens Ōmokoroa - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/omokoroa/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Ōmokoroa's harbourside homes. Made to measure and fitted by our own team - indicative quote from your photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Western Bay - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you fit insect screens to new builds in Ōmokoroa's subdivisions?
A: Yes. A lot of our Ōmokoroa work is in the newer subdivisions along the peninsula, where homes are built around wide sliding and stacker doors and modern aluminium joinery. Retractable screens are made to measure for exactly those openings, with a slim powder-coated cassette matched to your joinery colour, and we usually fit them after handover once the joinery is in.
Q: What stops the midges that come off the harbour at dusk?
A: A tighter mesh. The standard 18x14 weave handles flies and mosquitoes, but harbour midges are small enough to work through it. For homes near the water's edge we fit an 18x18 midge mesh that holds them out while still letting the evening air move through and keeping the outlook clear. See the mesh options guide.
Q: Are retractable screens easy to live with day to day?
A: Yes. The screen slides on a light action you can operate with one hand, retracts fully into its cassette when you are not using it, and there are no panels to lift out or store - which matters to plenty of the retired households on the peninsula. If anything ever needs adjusting, the same team that fitted your screens services them.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the solution and product - and Ōmokoroa is an easy run from our Tauranga base.
## Insect screens for Ōmokoroa homes
Ōmokoroa reaches out into Tauranga Harbour between Tauranga and Katikati, with
water close on both sides of the peninsula. It is a place people move to for
the harbour - long-settled residents and retirees near the Point, and young
families filling the new subdivisions further back - and everyone runs into
the same thing on a warm evening: the insects that lift off the estuary as the
light drops. We fit retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor
blinds, all made to measure, and Ōmokoroa gives us a steady run of local work,
so we are regularly on the peninsula.
## Built for harbourside living
Living beside tidal flats has a catch. On still evenings, midges and sandflies
drift up from the water's edge, and they are small enough to get through a
standard fly screen. For homes close to the harbour we fit a tighter 18x18
midge mesh that holds them out, while the standard 18x14 mesh keeps the widest,
clearest outlook for homes further from the water. Newer Ōmokoroa homes are
designed around indoor-outdoor flow - big sliders and stackers onto a deck
facing the harbour - and retractable screens draw across those wide openings
then disappear into a slim cassette when you want nothing between you and the
view. Our retractable window screens are made in our Tauranga workshop, and
every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our own team.
## A local team just down the road
Our base is in Tauranga, a short run down State Highway 2, so getting to
Ōmokoroa is easy - and the same goes for the rural and lifestyle properties
around the peninsula at Plummers Point, Whakamārama, Te Puna, Pahoia, and
Apata, where the fly pressure off paddocks and orchards is its own reason to
screen the doors.
## Getting an Ōmokoroa quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/)
and we will come back with an indicative price - no site visit needed to get
started. Once you are happy with the product and the price, we book the
measure-up, and it is the same local team from first quote to final fit.

# Phantom Screens Morrinsville - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/morrinsville/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Morrinsville homes, made to measure and installed by our own team - indicative quote from your photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Morrinsville-wide - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens in Morrinsville and the surrounding dairy district?
A: Yes. Our team fits retractable fly screens, insect screen doors, and outdoor blinds across Morrinsville township and the farms and lifestyle blocks around it - Tahuna, Tatuanui, Waitoa, Kiwitahi, and out towards Walton and Eureka.
Q: Will your screens cope with the fly pressure on a Waikato dairy farm?
A: Yes - it is the main reason people out here call us. Homes near stock, races, and effluent ponds get far more flies over summer than a town section does, so we screen the openings that matter most - usually the big ranch sliders off the living areas and the kitchen and scullery windows - and can step up to a heavier mesh where the fly load is high.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
## Insect screens for Morrinsville homes
Morrinsville sits right in the middle of the Waikato dairy country, and the homes
here run the full range - town villas and brick-and-tile through to the working
farmhouses and lifestyle blocks out on the surrounding roads. What they share is
simple: everyone wants the doors open on a warm evening without the house filling
with flies. We fit made-to-measure retractable insect screens, fly screen doors,
and outdoor blinds with our own team, and over the years we have finished dozens
of jobs across Morrinsville and the farms around it.
## Built for Morrinsville dairy country
Out here the fly pressure is real. A home near stock, races, or an effluent pond
cops far more insects over summer than a town section ever does, so we screen the
openings that actually matter - the big ranch sliders and stacker doors off the
living areas, and the kitchen and scullery windows where the flies gather. Where
the load is heavy we can move to a tighter mesh, and farm homes with working dogs
get the claw-resistant pet mesh so a bored dog does not put a paw straight through
it. The slim powder-coated cassettes are colour-matched to your joinery, so a
screen sits on a tidy town villa or a new build as part of the house, not as a
bolt-on.
## Getting a Morrinsville quote
The quickest way to start is to send a few photos and rough opening sizes through
the [quote form](/quote/) - we will come back with an indicative price and no one
has to drive out first. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the
product and the price.

# Phantom Screens Matamata - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/matamata/
Retractable insect screens and fly screens for Matamata homes and lifestyle blocks. Made to measure, installed by our own team - indicative quote from photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Matamata-wide - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens on farms and lifestyle blocks around Matamata?
A: Yes. A lot of our Matamata work is rural - farm homesteads and lifestyle-block homes near stock and open paddocks, where the fly pressure is far higher than a town section. We fit retractable fly screens, screen doors, and outdoor blinds to the big openings those homes are built around, from ranchsliders to wide awning windows.
Q: Which doors and windows can you screen on a Matamata homestead?
A: Most of them. Retractable screens suit ranchsliders, French doors opening onto a verandah, single entry doors, and awning or sliding windows. The cassette is slim and powder-coated to match your joinery, and the screen retracts fully out of sight when you are not using it.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the solution and product - handy when you are out on a block and would rather not wait for someone to drive out.
## Insect screens for Matamata homes
Matamata sits in the middle of Waikato dairy country, and out here the flies
come with the paddocks. Phantom Screens NZ fits retractable fly screens, insect
screen doors, and outdoor blinds for town homes, farm homesteads, and lifestyle
blocks right across the district. Throw the doors open on a warm evening for
fresh air without the countryside drifting in behind it, with every screen made
to measure and fitted by our own team.
## Built for Matamata farms and lifestyle blocks
Rural properties are hard on a screen. Homes near stock, effluent ponds, and
open paddocks see far more flies than a town section, and the still, humid
Waikato evenings bring them out in numbers. Our retractable screens are built
for the wide openings homesteads and lifestyle-block homes are designed around -
ranchsliders, French doors onto a verandah, and tall awning windows - and they
retract out of sight when the weather cools off. The standard 18x14 mesh keeps a
clear view over the farm, and claw-resistant pet mesh is there for the working
dogs and house pets that live on the back door.
## Getting a Matamata quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) for
an indicative price - no one needs to drive out for you to get started. We only
book a measure-up once you are happy with the product and the price. Whether you

# Phantom Screens Pāpāmoa - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/papamoa/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Pāpāmoa homes. NZ owned, made to measure and fitted by our own team - indicative quote from your photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Pāpāmoa-wide - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Can you fit insect screens to a new build in Pāpāmoa?
A: Yes, and nothing needs to be planned in during construction. Screens are measured once the joinery is in and fitted on a single visit, with hardware powder-coated to sit against the darker greys, greens, and blacks common on newer Pāpāmoa builds rather than standing out from them. A lot of our new-build work here comes from owners fitting screens soon after they move in.
Q: Which screens suit the sliders and stackers Pāpāmoa homes are built around?
A: Most Pāpāmoa living areas open to the patio through a ranchslider or a wide stacker, and both can be screened. Single sliding and hinged doors take a retractable screen that disappears into a slim cassette beside the opening. The really wide stacker and bifold openings can be screened to around 4.5 metres from one side, or roughly double that with two screens meeting in the middle.
Q: Do you have a mesh for the midges that come off the beach at dusk?
A: Yes. The standard mesh keeps out flies and mosquitoes, and for the smaller midges and sandflies that lift off the dunes and the wetland reserves at dusk we fit a tighter midge mesh, which holds them out while keeping your outlook clear. See the mesh options guide.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
## Insect screens for Pāpāmoa homes
Pāpāmoa has grown from a strip of baches into one of the country's biggest
beach suburbs, and the way it has grown shapes the work we do here. Long, flat
streets of single-level homes run behind the dunes from Pāpāmoa Beach out
through Wairakei towards Te Tumu, nearly all of them built for indoor-outdoor
living - kitchen, living room, and patio connected by wide sliding doors. We
fit retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds across
the suburb, every one made to measure and fitted by our own team, based just
up the road in Tauranga.
## Built for new builds and brick-and-tile
Most of Pāpāmoa is newer housing - brick-and-tile on a concrete slab, with
aluminium joinery in today's darker colours and a stacker or ranchslider
opening the living space to the outdoors. Retractable screens suit these homes
well. The cassette is slim, the hardware is powder-coated so it can be matched
to dark joinery instead of standing out against it, and nothing has to be
built in during construction - we measure and fit after you move in, which is
how most of our new-build work here arrives. Single sliding and hinged doors
take a retractable door screen, and the widest stacker and bifold openings can
be screened to around 4.5 metres per side, with two screens meeting in the
middle for the largest of them.
## Sea breeze in, midges out
The onshore breeze is half the reason people live here, and on a warm evening
the whole suburb has its doors open. The catch comes at dusk, when midges and
sandflies drift up from the dunes and the wetland reserves that thread through
the newer subdivisions. For homes near the beach or the waterways we fit a
tighter midge mesh in place of the standard 18x14 weave, and claw-resistant
pet mesh handles the family dog. Whatever the mesh, the screen retracts fully
out of sight when it is not in use.
## Getting a Pāpāmoa quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/)
and we will come back with an indicative price - no site visit needed to get
started. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the solution and

Tumu, and inland to Kairua.

outlook. Pet mesh, a claw-resistant vinyl-coated polyester that resists tears and
punctures, is available for homes with dogs and cats.

# Phantom Screens Taupō - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/taupo/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Taupō homes and holiday houses. Made to measure, installed by our own team - indicative quote from photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Taupō-wide - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do retractable screens suit Taupō's lakefront and holiday homes?
A: Yes. A lot of Taupō homes are built around the view, with big ranch sliders and stacker doors facing the lake or the mountains. Our screens retract fully into a slim cassette, so they never sit across your outlook or shade the low winter sun, and finer mesh is available for the midges and sandflies that lift off the lake edge and the river on still evenings.
Q: Do you install insect screens across the Taupō district?
A: Yes. Our team installs retractable fly screens, insect screen doors, and outdoor blinds across Taupō town and the wider district - Acacia Bay, Kinloch, Wairakei, and down to Turangi at the southern end of the lake. Send your details and we will confirm timing for your area.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
## Insect screens for Taupō homes
Taupō sits on the northern shore of the country's biggest lake, and the way
people live here shapes what they want from a screen. Lakefront houses, town
homes, and the baches and holiday houses that fill up over summer and the ski
season all want to open right up to the water and the fresh air - without the
insects that come with a warm evening by the lake. We measure, fit, and service
made-to-measure retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor
blinds ourselves across the district.
## Built for Taupō
Up on the central plateau, Taupō runs to extremes - hot, dry summers and hard,
frosty winters. Because our screens retract fully into their cassette, through
winter they pull right out of the way and never shade the low sun or the lake
view a home was built around. In summer, the finer 18x18 midge mesh is there for
homes close to the water and the river outlet, where midges and sandflies come
out at dusk, while the standard 18x14 mesh keeps a clear outlook everywhere
else. For holiday houses and lifestyle blocks with dogs, the claw-resistant pet
mesh stands up to paws and jumping. Big view-facing openings - ranch sliders,
stackers, and French doors - are exactly what the retractable system is built
for.
## Getting a Taupō quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) and
we will come back with an indicative price - no site visit needed to get
started. Once you're happy with the product and the price, we book the

URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/tauranga/
Retractable insect screens for Tauranga doors and windows, plus outdoor blinds - made to measure, installed by our own team. Indicative quote from photos.
Key facts:
- NZ owned - Our workshop is in Tauranga
- Since 1999 - Screening NZ homes
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Tauranga-wide - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens across Tauranga?
A: Yes - Tauranga is our home base, with our workshop and head office here. Your screens are made to measure, and our own team installs fly screens, insect screen doors, and outdoor blinds across the city, from Mount Maunganui and Papamoa to Bethlehem and Otumoetai.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
Q: Do you fit bug screens for coastal Tauranga homes?
A: Yes. For homes near the Mount, Papamoa, and the harbour we fit midge mesh - a tighter bug screen weave that keeps out the sandflies and midges common around the coast and estuary. See the mesh options guide.
Q: Can I visit your Tauranga workshop?
A: Yes, by appointment. We are a working workshop rather than a walk-in showroom, so call us or send an enquiry first and we will set a time to show you the screens and talk through your project. For a price, the fastest start is to send photos and rough sizes for an indicative quote.
Q: Do you install beyond Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty?
A: Our own team covers Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty, and we take on larger or architectural projects nationwide by arrangement - just ask.
Q: Will salt air affect the screens?
A: The hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range for year-round coastal use, and the mesh is built to last by the coast. A seasonal fresh-water rinse keeps everything running smoothly near the water.
## Insect screens, made to measure in Tauranga
Tauranga is our home base - our workshop and head office are here, and our
window screens are made to measure on site. Every screen is fitted across the
city by our own team, so the people who measure your openings are the people who
install them. We screen homes right across the Bay of Plenty, from Waihi and
Katikati through the Mount and Papamoa to Te Puke and Whakatane. Keep your doors
and windows open through the Bay of Plenty summer for fresh air, without flies and
mosquitoes getting in. Fly screen doors, window
screens, and outdoor blinds are all made to fit the opening.
## Built for the Bay of Plenty coast
Living near the Mount, Papamoa, or the harbour means sandflies and midges, so
we fit a tighter 18x18 midge mesh for coastal and estuary homes. It keeps the
smaller insects out while holding your sea and harbour views, and the hardware
is powder-coated in the Dulux range for year-round coastal use. For
covered decks and patios near the water, motorised [outdoor screens](/outdoor-blinds/)
enclose the space against sandflies and the sea breeze. A seasonal fresh-water
rinse of the hardware and tracks clears the salt and keeps everything running
smoothly - our [care guide](/guides/care/) has the detail.
## Getting a Tauranga quote
Send photos and rough sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) for an indicative price - no
visit needed to get started. Once you're happy with the solution and product we book a measure
and consult, then make and install your screens.

Q: Do you install insect screens in Te Awamutu and the surrounding rural area?
A: Yes. Our team installs retractable fly screens, insect screen doors, and outdoor blinds across Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Pirongia, and the surrounding rural properties.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
Q: Do you screen rural and lifestyle homes?
A: Yes - rural homes are a good fit, and pet mesh stands up to dogs and farm cats coming and going through the doors all day.
Most of our screens are made to measure in our own Tauranga workshop.

outdoor blinds for homes and rural properties across Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, and
Pirongia. Open up through summer for fresh air without insects, with screens
custom-made to fit and installed by our own team.
## Built for rural Waikato living
Lifestyle blocks and rural homes suit retractable screens. Claw-resistant pet mesh is a
vinyl-coated polyester that stands up to dogs and farm cats coming and going,
the standard insect mesh keeps your outlook over the paddocks, and the Wall
Screen covers the wide sliders common on newer builds. Frames are powder-coated
in the Dulux range, with the colour confirmed at the measure-up.

# Phantom Screens Te Kauwhata - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/te-kauwhata/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Te Kauwhata homes, new builds, and lifestyle blocks. Made to measure and fitted by our own team.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Te Kauwhata-wide - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Can you fit insect screens to a new build in one of Te Kauwhata's subdivisions?
A: Yes. New homes in the growing subdivisions around Te Kauwhata, including Lakeside, are built around big sliding and stacker doors, and those are exactly the openings our retractable screens are designed for. The slim cassette is powder-coated to match your joinery, so it reads as part of the window suite rather than an add-on, and we can fit screens any time after the joinery is in - during the build or years later.
Q: We are close to Lake Waikare and the wetlands - do you have a mesh for midges and mosquitoes?
A: We do. On still evenings the shallow lake and the wetland country toward Meremere can push midges and mosquitoes across the town and the surrounding blocks, and the standard weave will not stop the smallest of them. For those homes we fit a tighter 18x18 midge mesh that holds the fine insects out while the outlook stays clear. See the mesh options guide.
Q: Do you cover the rural blocks around Te Kauwhata?
A: Yes. Lifestyle blocks and farmhouses out toward Waerenga, Rangiriri, and Glen Murray carry real fly pressure off the surrounding paddocks, and a lot of our work in the district is exactly this - wide rural openings, verandah doors, and awning windows, screened so the house can stay open through a north Waikato summer. Claw-resistant pet mesh is there for the dogs that live on the back door.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the solution and product.
## Insect screens for Te Kauwhata homes
Te Kauwhata is one of the fastest-growing corners of north Waikato - a village
that has picked up whole new neighbourhoods of family homes while keeping its
lifestyle blocks, its farms, and the vineyards that earned it a wine-country
name. Phantom Screens NZ fits made-to-measure retractable insect screens, fly
screen doors, and outdoor blinds for all of it, and the town sits right on our
run between Waikato and Auckland jobs, so we are regularly in the area.
## New builds and the Lakeside growth
The new homes going up around Te Kauwhata, including the Lakeside development,
are designed around indoor-outdoor living - big sliding and stacker doors onto
a patio, and neighbours closer than the old village sections ever had. Our
retractable door screens draw across those wide openings and disappear into a
slim, joinery-matched cassette when you are not using them, so the new house
keeps its clean lines. Mesh also takes the edge off sightlines from the street
and the section next door, which matters more in a subdivision than it ever
did on a back road.
## Lifestyle blocks, the lake, and the wetland
Outside the growth area, this is still working country. Blocks toward
Waerenga, Rangiriri, and Glen Murray sit among paddocks that produce the same
real fly pressure as the rest of rural Waikato, and the standard 18x14 mesh
with a clear outlook handles it. Closer to Lake Waikare and the wetland
country toward Meremere and Ōhinewai, still evenings bring midges and
mosquitoes instead - for those homes we fit the tighter 18x18 midge mesh.
Claw-resistant pet mesh covers the working dogs and house pets in between.
## Getting a Te Kauwhata quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/)
and we will come back with an indicative price - no one needs to drive out for
you to get started. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the
product and the price, whether you are in a new street at Lakeside or out on a
block past Waerenga.

# Phantom Screens Te Puke - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/te-puke/
Retractable insect screens for Te Puke homes, orchards and lifestyle blocks. Made to measure, fitted by our Bay of Plenty team - indicative quote from photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Te Puke & coast - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you screen homes on orchards and lifestyle blocks around Te Puke?
A: Yes. A lot of our Te Puke work is rural - homes on kiwifruit orchards, lifestyle blocks out toward Paengaroa and Pongakawa, and homesteads on the flats. We fit retractable fly screens, screen doors, and outdoor blinds to the openings those homes are built around, from ranchsliders and verandah doors to awning windows, with claw-resistant pet mesh for the dogs on the back door.
Q: Do you install at Maketū and Pukehina Beach?
A: Yes. Our Bay of Plenty team covers the whole district, from Te Puke and Paengaroa out to the coast at Maketū, Pukehina, and Pongakawa. Beachfront and estuary homes can have a finer midge mesh fitted in place of the standard weave, tight enough to hold out the sandflies and midges that come off the water on still evenings.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product - it saves waiting on a visit when your place is a fair way up a back road.
## Insect screens for Te Puke homes
Te Puke calls itself the kiwifruit capital of the world, and the orchards that
earn the title shape how people live here - rural homesteads set among shelter
belts, lifestyle blocks toward Paengaroa and Pongakawa, and town homes a short
walk from the main street. Phantom Screens NZ fits retractable insect screens,
fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds, made to measure for all of them, so the doors
can stay open on a warm evening without the insects that come with living this
close to the land.
## Built for kiwifruit country
Horticulture keeps this corner of the Bay warm, sheltered, and green - and the
same conditions that suit the vines suit the insects. Shelter belts block the
breeze that would otherwise move flies and mosquitoes on, and the long, humid
growing season keeps them about well into autumn. Our retractable screens fit
the openings rural homes are built around - ranchsliders and French doors onto
the verandah, entry doors, and awning windows - and retract fully out of sight
when you are not using them. The standard 18x14 mesh keeps a clear view over
the block, and claw-resistant pet mesh stands up to the working dogs and house
pets that live on rural properties.
## Maketū, Pukehina, and the coast
A short drive from town the district meets the sea at Maketū and Pukehina
Beach, where the estuary and the dunes bring sandflies and midges out on still
evenings. For homes along the coast we fit a finer midge mesh that holds the
small coastal insects out while keeping the outlook over the water clear, with
hardware powder-coated for year-round coastal use.
## Getting a Te Puke quote
Our workshop is in Tauranga, just up the road, and we are regularly in Te Puke.
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) and
we will come back with an indicative price - no site visit needed to get
started. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with the product and the
price, whether you are in town, out on an orchard block, or at the beach at
Pukehina.

## Insect screens for Waikato homes

across the Waikato, from Otorohanga to the Coromandel.
## Built for Waikato homes and lifestyle blocks
From town houses to rural lifestyle blocks, retractable screens fit the range of

# Phantom Screens Whakatāne - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/whakatane/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Whakatāne and Ōhope, made to measure and installed by our own team. Indicative quote from your photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Eastern Bay - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens in Whakatāne and Ōhope?
A: Yes. Our Bay of Plenty team fits retractable fly screens, insect screen doors, and outdoor blinds for homes around Whakatāne, Ōhope, and the eastern Bay - send your details and we will confirm timing for your area.
Q: Do you fit finer mesh for homes near the estuary and the beach?
A: Yes. Homes near the Whakatāne River estuary, the harbour, and the Ōhope dunes get our tighter midge mesh, which holds out the sandflies and midges that the standard weave lets through while keeping the coastal outlook clear. See the mesh options guide.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
## Insect screens for Whakatāne homes
Whakatāne earns its reputation as one of the country's sunniest spots, and that
means doors and windows stay open from spring right through a long, warm eastern
Bay summer. Phantom Screens NZ fits made-to-measure retractable insect screens,
fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds so you can keep the house open to the sea
breeze without letting the flies, mosquitoes, and midges follow you inside.
## Built for Whakatāne's coast and estuary
Living close to the water has a catch. Homes along Coastlands, out toward the
Whakatāne River estuary and heads, and over the hill at Ōhope Beach all sit in
the way of sandflies and midges that drift up from the dunes and tidal flats on
a still evening. For those homes we fit a finer midge mesh in place of the
standard 18x14 weave, tight enough to hold the small coastal insects out while
your view of the water stays clear. Bach and coastal-home living here tends to
run through big ranch sliders, bifolds, and French doors onto the deck, and our
retractable door screens draw across those wide openings then pull out of sight
when the party moves outside. For the Rangitāiki Plains lifestyle blocks inland,
where real fly pressure comes off the paddocks, the same made-to-measure screens
handle the larger rural openings, and claw-resistant pet mesh is there for homes
with dogs and cats.
## Getting a Whakatāne quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) and
we will come back with an indicative price - no visit needed to get started. We
only book a measure and consult once you're happy with the solution and product.

# Phantom Screens Whangamatā - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/whangamata/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Whangamatā baches and beach homes, fitted by our own team - indicative quote from your photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Opoutere to Whiritoa - Installed by our own team
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens in Whangamatā and the beaches nearby?
A: Yes. We have a steady run of work in Whangamatā, and we cover Onemana, Opoutere, and Whiritoa on the same trips up the coast. Send your details through and we will confirm timing for your place.
Q: We are only at the bach every few weeks - how does quoting work?
A: That suits how we work. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price - nobody needs to be at the property for that. Once you are happy with the product and the price, we time the measure-up and the install for when you are next up, or work in with whoever looks after the place for you.
Q: How do the screens cope with salt air at the beach?
A: Well. The frames are powder-coated aluminium and the standard mesh is a coated fibreglass weave, both made for coastal conditions, and because the screens retract fully into their cassette when you are not using them - or while the bach is empty - they spend most of their life out of the weather. An occasional wash-down, the same care as your joinery, is all they ask.
## Insect screens for Whangamatā homes
Whangamatā is a beach town first - baches and holiday homes around the harbour
and the surf beach, with more people making it home year-round every summer.
Between the estuary, the bush behind town, and the warm, still evenings, the
mosquitoes and sandflies arrive right when you want the doors open. Phantom
Screens NZ fits made-to-measure retractable insect screens, fly screen doors,
and outdoor blinds, and every screen is measured, fitted, and serviced by our
own team - we are regularly on this side of the Coromandel.
## Made for bach life
Most Whangamatā places sit shut up between visits, so the first job on arrival
is always airing the house out. Retractable screens let you throw every door
and window open the moment you get there - the ranchslider onto the deck, the
awning windows that catch the sea breeze - and leave them open through dinner
without the bugs following you in. When you lock up again, the screens retract
fully into their slim cassettes, so nothing is left sitting out in the salt and
weather while you are away. For homes close to the water - the harbour at the
north end of town or the Otahu estuary at the south - a tighter midge mesh
holds out the sandflies that the standard weave lets through, while keeping
your view of the water clear.
## Onemana, Opoutere, and Whiritoa
The smaller settlements along this stretch of coast get the same treatment.
Opoutere sits on the Wharekawa Harbour, where pines, dunes, and tidal flats
make for real sandfly pressure on a still evening; Onemana's homes climb the
hill above the beach; and Whiritoa rounds out the southern end. We cover all
three on the same runs as Whangamatā, so an install out here never waits on a
special trip.
## Getting a Whangamatā quote
Send a few photos and rough opening sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) and
we will come back with an indicative price - you do not need to be at the bach
to get started. Once you are happy with the product and the price, we book the
measure-up for a time you are up, and it is the same local team from first
quote to final fit.

# Phantom Screens Whangārei - Retractable Insect Screens & Outdoor Blinds
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/whangarei/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for Whangārei homes. NZ owned, made to measure and professionally installed - indicative quote from your photos.
Key facts:
- Since 1999 - NZ owned, made to measure
- 3,000+ - Homes screened
- 4.9-star - Average Google rating
- Lifetime - Limited lifetime warranty
- Coastal mesh - Midge mesh for subtropical homes
FAQs:
Q: Do you install insect screens in Whangārei?
A: Yes. We arrange professional installation of retractable insect screens, fly screen doors, and outdoor blinds for Whangārei homes - send your details and we will confirm timing for your area.
Q: Do you fit midge mesh for coastal Whangārei homes?
A: Yes. Coastal and estuary homes around Whangārei get midge mesh, a tighter weave that keeps out the sandflies and midges common in the warm north - see the mesh options guide.
Q: Can I get a price without a site visit?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes through the quote form and we will come back with an indicative price. We only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product.
Q: Will the salt air affect the screens?
A: The hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range to stand up to the coastal salt air, and a seasonal fresh-water rinse keeps it running smoothly near the water.
## Insect screens for Whangārei homes
Phantom Screens NZ supplies made-to-measure retractable insect screens, fly
screen doors, and outdoor blinds for Whangārei homes. They are professionally
installed, with service and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
Open up through the warm Northland summer for fresh air without insects getting
in.
## Built for the subtropical north
Whangārei's humid summers bring out the insects, so coastal and estuary homes
get the tighter 18x18 midge mesh to keep the small ones out. The mesh keeps your
views, and the hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux range to
stand up to the salt air. A seasonal fresh-water rinse of the hardware and tracks
keeps everything running smoothly near the coast - see our
[care guide](/guides/care/).
## Getting a Whangārei quote
Send photos and rough sizes through the [quote form](/quote/) for an indicative price - no
visit needed to get started. We only book a measure-up once you are happy with
the quote.

# Caring for Your Insect Screens
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/care/
How to care for made-to-measure, professionally installed insect screens and outdoor blinds - mesh cleaning, track care, and coastal salt tips.
FAQs:
Q: How often do insect screens need cleaning?
A: Inspect and clean them when dust, pollen or salt begins to build up. Homes near the coast or in industrial and geothermal conditions normally need attention more often than sheltered homes.
Q: How do I clean insect screen mesh?
A: First identify the product and follow its handover instructions. For routine cleaning, work gently with a soft brush or cloth, fresh water and, where the product instructions allow it, mild detergent. Do not use abrasive tools or high-pressure water.
Q: What lubricant should I use on the tracks?
A: Do not assume every screen uses the same lubricant. Clean loose grit first and follow the product-specific instructions below. If you are unsure, contact Phantom Screens NZ before spraying anything into the tracks.
Q: Can I use a water blaster on my screens or blinds?
A: No. High-pressure water can stretch insect mesh and force water into the hardware. Fresh water from a hose or a damp cloth is all you need.
Q: What extra care do coastal screens need?
A: Salt deposits should not be left to build up. Clean exposed hardware and tracks with fresh water more often than you would at a sheltered home, using the frequency and products specified for your screen family.
## Start with the product
Brio, MagicSeal, Phantom retractable screens and Ziptrak blinds do not share one
universal care instrument. Check your quote or handover pack, then use the
product-specific summary below. If you are unsure what is installed, send us a
photo before using cleaners or lubricants.
## Routine cleaning
- Remove loose dust and cobwebs gently with a soft brush or cloth.
- Use fresh water and only the cleaner permitted for that product.
- Let mesh, fabric or clear PVC dry before it is stored or rolled away.
- Do not use a water blaster, harsh solvent or abrasive pad.
## Tracks and cassette
- Remove grit before operating a stiff screen; forcing it can make a small issue
worse.
- Wipe accessible tracks and surfaces gently, without dismantling the screen.
- Lubricant requirements differ. Use only the product-specific instruction below
or contact us first.
## Coastal and estuary homes
Near the coast, salt builds up faster. Clean exposed hardware and tracks with
fresh water more often than at a sheltered home and do not leave deposits sitting
on the finish. Industrial and geothermal exposure can also require more frequent
care.
## Outdoor blinds and clear PVC
Outdoor blinds need their own instructions. Keep the blind either in the safe
operating position described for its system or fully retracted, and never store
wet mesh or PVC rolled up. The Ziptrak-specific position, cleaning frequency and
track-lubrication summary appears below. For Executive screens, follow the
handover instructions or contact us.
## Strong wind
Do not generalise one product's wind guidance to another. Avoid leaving a screen
or blind part-way through its travel in rising wind, and follow its product
instructions. See our [outdoor blinds and wind guide](/guides/outdoor-blinds-and-wind/)
for practical planning advice; if severe weather is expected, contact us if you
are not sure which safe position applies to your system.
## Damage and repairs
Many screen faults are serviceable, but do not force, dismantle or re-lubricate a
screen to test it. A photo or short video usually lets us identify the next step.
See why a maintained screen can be a
[long-term fixture, not a throwaway](/guides/how-long-do-screens-last/).
If a **Serene window screen** ever jams and won't retract, you can usually free it
yourself in a few seconds - see [fixing a jammed screen](/guides/fixing-a-jammed-screen/).
If something is torn or not running right, [get in touch](/contact/) rather than
forcing it - a quick repair from us keeps the screen running as it should.

# Choosing Colours for Your Screens
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/colour-options/
Screen colour options: 20 standard Dulux colours in Matt, plus custom colour-matching to your joinery. Made to measure and professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: What are the standard colours?
A: We hold 20 standard colours from the Dulux range, with a Matt finish as standard. They cover about 85% of the homes we screen and are shown above.
Q: Can you match the screen to my window frames?
A: Yes. The hardware is powder-coated from the Dulux range and colour-matched to your joinery, so the cassette and tracks blend in rather than stand out.
Q: Can I get a custom colour?
A: Yes. The 20 standard colours cover about 85% of the homes we screen, so most people pick one of those. Any other colour is available as a custom - a small surcharge, confirmed at your quote. We confirm the exact colour with you at the measure-up.
Q: Can I have an anodised finish?
A: Yes, though anodising is a specialist finish that carries a significant added cost over powder-coating. Powder-coating from the Dulux range is our standard finish; where an anodised finish is specified, we confirm the finish, colour, and the added cost with you at the quote.
Q: What powder-coat do you use?
A: Our hardware is powder-coated in the Dulux Duralloy range - a durable architectural finish colour-matched to your joinery, and the same range used across our window, door, and outdoor screens.
Q: What colour should I choose?
A: Most people match the hardware to their window or door joinery so the screen disappears. If you are unsure, we will recommend a match at the measure-up.
## How to choose
- **Match the joinery** - the most popular choice; the screen reads as part of
the window or door.
- **Match the cladding or trim** - where you want the screen to sit with the wall
rather than the frame.
- **Mesh choice affects the look too** - high-visibility mesh almost disappears;
solar/privacy mesh reads slightly darker. See
[mesh options](/guides/mesh-options/).

# What to do if your Serene screen jams
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/fixing-a-jammed-screen/
If your Phantom Serene retractable window screen jams and won't roll back up, here is the quick fix - and when to call us. Step by step, with a short video.
FAQs:
Q: Why won't my Phantom Serene screen retract?
A: Usually a small bearing inside the screen has momentarily locked. A gentle jog of the mesh - pull it down a little and let it go - almost always frees it so it rolls back up. If it keeps happening, the bearing needs a quick repair.
Q: My screen is stuck at the bottom - what do I do?
A: Lift the bottom bar up slightly to free a little mesh, then give the mesh a small jog downward. It will catch and pull itself back up into the track. Don't force it.
Q: Should I pull harder or use a lubricant to fix a jam?
A: No. Don't force the mesh or yank the bar - the fix is a gentle jog, not force. Keep oil-based sprays such as WD40 away from the screen. If a jam keeps recurring, get in touch and we'll repair it.
Q: Does a jam mean the screen is broken?
A: No. It is almost always the internal bearing engaging for a moment, which frees with a jog. Only if it happens repeatedly does it need a repair, and the screen is fully serviceable either way.
The Serene retractable window screen is a great product, but on a rare occasion
it can jam - you pull the mesh down and it no longer retracts back up. It might
stick at the bottom, or part way up.
Inside the screen there is a small bearing that can lock. It does an important
job during installation and repairs, but in everyday use it should never engage.
When it does, the screen stops rolling itself back up. The good news is that you
can almost always free it in a few seconds.
## Free it yourself - most cases
Don't force the screen or yank the mesh. Usually a gentle "jog" is all it needs:
1. Take hold of the bottom bar.
2. Pull the mesh down a small way, then let it go.
3. The screen re-engages and retracts on its own.
## If it's stuck at the bottom
Sometimes the screen jams right at the bottom and won't lift at all. In that
case:
1. Gently lift the bottom bar up a little to free some mesh.
2. With that bit of slack, give the mesh a small jog - pull it down slightly.
3. It catches and starts to pull itself back up into the track.
## If it keeps happening
A one-off jam is normal - for most screens it happens once in a blue moon, or
never. If a screen jams again and again, the bearing needs attention, and that is
a quick repair for us. [Get in touch](/contact/) and we'll sort it, rather than
you wrestling with it.

# How long do Phantom screens last?
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/how-long-do-screens-last/
How long do retractable fly screens last? Phantom screens are made to measure, repairable, and still working 22 years after install - even by the sea.
FAQs:
Q: How long do retractable fly screens last?
A: Decades, when they are looked after. We regularly service Phantom screens still working more than 20 years after they were installed, including homes by the sea. The mesh is the part that eventually wears, and it is replaceable, so a screen is not written off when it does.
Q: Can an old Phantom screen be repaired or re-meshed?
A: Yes. The mesh is a replaceable cartridge, so we re-mesh a screen rather than replace the whole thing. On a 22-year-old install we serviced recently, the worst of the wear was a few tears at the bottom of the mesh - a straightforward repair.
Q: Are parts still available for older screens?
A: Yes. As the longest-established retractable screen company in New Zealand, we keep older systems serviceable - the parts for long-installed screens are still supportable.
Q: Does living near the coast shorten a screen's life?
A: Salt is the main factor near the sea, but the powder-coat finish is built for it. A seasonal fresh-water rinse of the hardware and tracks keeps things running. Coastal screens 22 years old are still retracting properly.
The honest answer is decades. Because Phantom has been screening New Zealand homes
the longest, we get to see how our screens hold up after twenty years and more -
and service remains available for them today.
## A real example: 22 years on
On a recent job in Whangarei Heads, every screen in the house had been installed
22 years earlier. Of the ten screens, only four needed any repair after two
decades, and none of it was major. The door screens had a few small tears at the
bottom of the mesh. The window screens - which sit right by the sea - were worn
only slightly and were still retracting properly.
The fix in each case was simple: pull the screen apart, replace the mesh, and fit
any other parts needed. All of it is still fully supportable.
## Why they last
- **Made to be serviced, not replaced.** The mesh is a replaceable cartridge, so a
worn screen is re-meshed rather than written off.
- **Parts stay available long-term.** Even a screen installed two decades ago can
still be repaired with genuine parts.
- **A finish built for the conditions.** The powder-coated hardware is made for New
Zealand weather, including coastal salt air.
## Helping yours last
Most of a screen's life comes down to a little seasonal care - keeping the tracks
clean, a fresh-water rinse near the coast, and not forcing a screen that sticks.
See [caring for your screens](/guides/care/) for the few minutes a season it
takes, and [fixing a jammed screen](/guides/fixing-a-jammed-screen/) if one ever
won't retract.
## Backed by our warranty
Phantom-made screens carry a [limited lifetime warranty](/warranty/), plus a
workmanship cover on the install. A screen is a long-term fixture in your home, not
a throwaway - and if something ever needs attention, [get in touch](/contact/) and
we'll service it.

# What to Expect from Installation
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/installation/
How a Phantom Screens NZ installation runs - indicative quote from your photos, precise measure-up, then screens made to measure and professionally fitted.
FAQs:
Q: How long does an installation take?
A: Most home installs are completed in a day - a window screen often takes under an hour, a door screen a couple of hours, and larger motorised outdoor screens can take the full day. Multi-screen jobs can run longer - we confirm timing when we book.
Q: Can I install the screens myself?
A: Our retractable screens and outdoor blinds are professionally measured and fitted, with service and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
Q: Can you fit screens to my existing doors and windows?
A: Yes. Most of our installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with neat, surface-mounted hardware - no need to replace your doors or windows.
Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare?
A: Just clear access to the doors or windows being screened. We protect the area, handle the rest, and tidy up before we leave.
## The process, start to finish
1. **Indicative quote** - you send photos and rough sizes; we come back with an
indicative price. No visit needed to get started.
2. **Measure-up** - once you're happy with the solution and product, we visit to
take precise measurements, confirm the screen type, mesh, and colour, and talk
through how it will operate. This is where the final quote is set.
3. **Manufacture** - your screens are custom-made to those exact measurements,
ready for a precise fit.
4. **Installation** - your screens are professionally fitted, usually in a day,
with a tidy finish and a run-through of how they work. Service and aftercare
are arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
## What the measure-up involves
The measure-up is quick and obligation-light. We check the opening (including any
out-of-square, which is common in older homes), confirm the right screen and mesh
for how you will use it, and help you settle on a colour to match your joinery.
You leave with a firm, made-to-measure quote.
## On install day

- Your installer arrives in the booked window and protects the working area.
- The hardware is fitted to the opening, then the screen or blind is fitted and
adjusted to run smoothly.
- Before we leave, we work through the Five-Point Install Check with you - below.
Phantom Screens NZ remains your point of contact from quote to installation,
service, and aftercare.
## The Five-Point Install Check
Every install ends the same way: your installer checks these five points off
with you, then signs and dates the sheet and leaves it with you.
1. **We let you know before we arrived** - you had our booking window and a
heads-up when we were on our way.
2. **We demonstrated every screen** - each screen or blind operated with you:
how it runs, how it latches, and what never to force.
3. **We walked you through care and warranty** - seasonal care and what your
[limited lifetime warranty](/warranty/) covers.
4. **We looked after your home** - shoes off inside, and no tools or hardware
rested where they could mark your home.
5. **We left the site clean** - offcuts, packaging and rubbish gone with us,
and drilling dust vacuumed.
The sheet carries QR links to the [care guide](/guides/care/) and your
[warranty](/warranty/), so there are no paper manuals to lose. You can also
[download the install-day checklist (PDF)](/downloads/phantom-install-day-checklist.pdf).
## Retrofit or new build
Most installs are retrofitted to existing aluminium joinery with neat,
surface-mounted hardware. On new builds we coordinate recessed cassette and
wiring details with your builder, joiner, or electrician ahead of time.
Ready to start? Send photos and rough sizes through the [quote form](/quote/).

# How to Measure for Insect Screens
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/measuring/
How to measure your door or window opening for a Phantom insect screen - enough for an indicative quote, with the precise measure-up done by us.
FAQs:
Q: Do I need exact measurements to get a quote?
A: No. A rough width and height plus a photo are enough for an indicative price. We take the precise measurements ourselves at the measure-up once you are happy to proceed, so the final screen fits exactly.
Q: What if my opening is not square?
A: That is common in older homes and not a problem - just send a photo and your rough sizes. We measure and account for out-of-square openings at the measure-up.
## What we need to quote
You do not need precise measurements for a quote - a rough size and a photo are
plenty. For an indicative price, measure:
1. **Width** - across the opening at its widest point, in millimetres or
centimetres.
2. **Height** - top to bottom of the opening.
3. **A photo** - stand back far enough to show the whole door or window and the
frame around it.
That is enough for us to recommend the right screen and come back with an
indicative price.
## How to measure
- Use a steel tape where you can; a rough measure is fine for the quote stage.
- Measure the opening itself, not just the glass - we need the frame.
- Note anything unusual: handles, obstructions, a slider that stacks one way, or
a step at the bottom.
## Common opening types
Different doors and windows are measured the same simple way - the **width** across
the opening and the **height** up it. These diagrams show those two measurements for
the openings we screen most. A rough size and a photo of any of these is plenty for a
quote; we confirm the exact figures at the measure-up.
**Single swing and sliding doors**

**Stacking doors and ranch sliders**

**Sliding doors**

**Bifold doors**

**French doors**

**Awning windows**

**Bifold windows**

## What happens next
Once you're happy with the solution and product, we book a measure-up and take the
precise measurements ourselves - so the made-to-measure screen fits exactly. You
are not responsible for the final numbers.
Ready to start? Send your rough sizes and photos through the
[quote form](/quote/).

# Insect Screen Mesh Options NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/mesh-options/
Compare every insect screen mesh - standard, midge, solar/privacy, pet, blockout and outdoor fabrics - made to measure and professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: Which mesh should I choose for a coastal home?
A: Midge mesh. It has a tighter weave than standard insect mesh, so it keeps out the sandflies and midges common around the coast and estuaries while still letting air through.
Q: Does solar mesh really reduce heat and glare?
A: Yes. Solar/privacy mesh is a tight E-Screen weave (10% or 6% openness) that cuts a meaningful share of the sun's heat, glare, and UV on hot, sunny openings, and it softens the view into the room for more daytime privacy.
Q: Is pet mesh worth it?
A: Pet mesh resists light damage from small pets, but is not pet-proof or a containment barrier. Tell us about your pet before choosing. It is available on compatible captured edge door screens and Executive outdoor blinds. Brio has no pet-mesh option.
Q: Can I still see out through midge mesh?
A: Yes. Midge mesh is tighter than standard mesh but still high-visibility, so your outlook stays clear while the smaller insects are kept out.
## Choosing the right insect screen mesh
The mesh you choose changes how a screen performs - what it keeps out, how much
you can see, and how much air and heat get through. Phantom Screens NZ offers
seven meshes and fabrics across our door, window, and outdoor ranges. Not every
product takes every mesh, so each section below says where it is available.
Compare them at a glance in the mesh comparison below, download our
[mesh selection guide (PDF)](/downloads/phantom-mesh-selection-guide.pdf), or see the
woven [fabric swatches](/outdoor-blinds/#fabric-range) - real weave photos of every
solar, privacy, and outdoor colourway.
## Standard insect mesh (18x14)
The default for most inland homes - a balanced weave (about 58% openness) that
keeps out flies, mosquitoes, and spiders while staying high-visibility and
letting plenty of air through. It is our usual starting point when airflow is the priority.
*Available on captured edge doors, Serene and magnetic windows, and Executive and Ziptrak outdoor screens. Brio uses its own pleated mesh.*
## Midge mesh (18x18 no-see-um)
A finer weave for coastal and estuary properties, where standard mesh lets
sandflies and midges through. It keeps the smaller insects out and stays
high-visibility, so your views are largely unchanged.
*Available on captured edge doors, Serene and magnetic windows, and Executive and Ziptrak outdoor screens. Brio uses its own pleated mesh.*
## Solar / privacy mesh
A tight architectural weave (E-Screen, 10% or 6% openness) that cuts a
meaningful share of the sun's heat, glare, and UV on hot, sunny openings, and
softens the view in for more daytime privacy - good for west-facing rooms and
overlooked windows. See the full [E-Screen colour
range](/outdoor-blinds/#fabric-range) and confirm a colour against physical samples.
*Available on Serene windows, compatible 80 mm captured edge doors, Executive and Ziptrak outdoor screens. Not available on 45 or 60 mm captured edge units or Brio.*
## Pet mesh
PawScreen Lite is a vinyl-coated polyester weave intended to resist light
damage from small pets. It is more visible and less open than standard mesh.
It is not pet-proof or a containment barrier. Read our advice on
[pets that jump or climb](/pet-friendly-screens/anti-jump/) before choosing.
*Available on compatible captured edge doors and Executive outdoor screens. Not available on Serene, Brio or manual Ziptrak.*
## Blockout fabric
The Serene 100% Blockout upgrade: the same discreet cassette with a Vibe
blockout fabric instead of insect mesh, for room darkening in bedrooms
and media rooms. Light can still enter around the installation. It is a light-control fabric, not an insect screen.
*Available on Serene window screens; also a special order on Executives fitted
indoors, for room darkening behind large glass openings - ask us.*
## Outdoor fabrics and clear PVC
Outdoor blinds also take a woven privacy-fabric range (Vtex Extreme, Plus,
Ultra, and View colourways) for sun control and privacy, and clear
PVC for shelter without airflow through the panel. An outdoor blind does not create a sealed room.
*Available on Executive motorised (140/180 mm housings) and Ziptrak outdoor
blinds.*
## Brio 612 Pleated Screen
The Brio 612 pleated door screen uses its own pleated mesh as part of the
system. It has no alternative mesh or pet-mesh option.
## Not sure which mesh you need?
Tell us about your home - coastal or inland, sunny or shaded, pets or not - and
send photos and rough window sizes through the [quote form](/quote/). We will recommend the
right mesh and come back with an indicative price. You can also download our
[mesh selection guide (PDF)](/downloads/phantom-mesh-selection-guide.pdf).

# Patio Screens for Apartments & Penthouses
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/patio-screens-for-apartments/
Motorised patio screens for apartment balconies and terraces - a two-part system that fits in the lift, made to measure and professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: How does a big screen get up to an apartment?
A: In two pieces. The Executive range includes a two-part option, Exec Connect, that ships in two halves, travels up the lift or the stairs, and is rejoined on site with the system's joiner bracket. It spans openings up to 6.0 m wide x 3.2 m high.
Q: Does the screen need an electrician?
A: Not with the battery motor option. It is charged through a USB-C charger, runs screens up to about 6 m wide, and needs no mains wiring to the head box - an optional solar panel can keep it topped up instead.
Q: How wide can an apartment screen go?
A: The two-part Exec Connect covers openings to 6.0 m wide x 3.2 m high. Where access allows a one-piece screen, the standard Executive spans up to 8 m wide x 5 m drop, or above 8 m through 12 m wide x 3.3 m drop, with compatible fabric and supports.
Q: Can it be used as a blackout screen indoors?
A: Yes. With a blockout fabric, an Executive fitted to the inside of a big glass wall or window can provide room darkening. Light may enter around the installation. It is a special order we specify case by case.
Q: Who makes the Executive screen?
A: The Executive is made to measure by Phantom in Australia, part of the wider Phantom Screens family. It is professionally installed, with service and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
## The lift problem
Fitting a motorised screen to an apartment balcony or a penthouse terrace
usually trips on one practical detail: a screen spanning several metres is
made as a single piece, and a single piece does not fit in a lift or up a
stairwell. Craning a blind up the outside of a building is expensive at best
and often not possible at all.
## A screen that arrives in two halves

*A motorised screen drawn down over a terrace's full-height glass, held taut in captured side channels.*
The Executive range has a two-part option - Exec Connect - built for exactly
this. The screen ships in two halves, comes up the lift, and is rejoined on
site with the system's joiner bracket. It uses the largest 180 mm housing and
spans openings up to 6.0 m wide x 3.2 m high, which covers most apartment
balconies and terraces. Where access allows a one-piece screen, the standard
[Executive](/outdoor-blinds/motorised/) spans up to 12 m.
## No wiring needed

*Drop the screen over an open glass wall to shade or enclose the space at the push of a button.*
Apartments rarely make it easy to run power to a balcony head box. The
Executive's battery motor option removes the question: it charges through a
standard USB-C charger, with an extension lead so the charging point sits
somewhere convenient, and runs screens up to about 6 m wide. No electrician,
no mains run, no wiring consent - and an optional solar panel can keep it
topped up instead.
## Wind on high balconies

*The same screens suit exposed upper-floor openings, where higher positions catch more wind.*
Higher floors see more wind. The Executive's captured-zipper side channels
hold the fabric taut in gusts, and wind sensors can retract the screen
automatically when it is blowing hard. We confirm the right housing and
fabric for the exposure at the measure-up.
## Blackout behind big glass

*Blockout fabric drops over a big opening for full light exclusion behind the glass.*
The same system also works indoors. With a blockout fabric, an Executive
fitted to the inside of a glass wall or window turns a bright room into a
dark one - the setup hotels use where a glass facade needs full light
exclusion, and just as useful for a media room or a bedroom behind big glass.
It is a special order we spec case by case.
## Where this fits
Apartment and penthouse balconies, [retirement-village
units](/retirement-villages/) with lift access, and hospitality rooms behind
big glass. The same fabric range as every Executive applies - insect mesh and
solar mesh - covered in our [mesh options
guide](/guides/mesh-options/).
## Getting a price
Send photos of the opening and rough sizes through the [enquiry
form](/quote/) for an indicative price - and mention the floor and lift
access, so we can spec the right system from the start.

# Outdoor blinds and strong wind
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/guides/outdoor-blinds-and-wind/
Practical wind guidance for Executive and Ziptrak outdoor screens. Know when to retract, how to use a wind sensor and why installation details matter.
FAQs:
Q: Is there one safe wind speed for every outdoor blind?
A: No. Size, fabric, fixings, exposure and the product all matter. A laboratory strength test is not an operating wind rating for every installation. We explain the applicable guidance at handover.
Q: Should Ziptrak blinds be left halfway down in wind?
A: No. In windy conditions, keep them fully retracted or fully down and locked. Before very strong winds, storms or severe weather, retract them fully.
Q: Does a wind sensor help?
A: An optional sensor can retract an Executive screen as wind rises. It is an additional aid, not a reason to leave screens exposed to an approaching storm.
## Start with the instructions for your screen
Captured side tracks retain the fabric, but they do not make an outdoor blind
storm protection. Wind loads change with the size and fabric of the blind and
with the building around it. A weather forecast or a Beaufort description is
not a product rating.
## Manual Ziptrak blinds
In windy conditions, keep the blind either **fully retracted** or **fully down
and locked**. Halfway down is a vulnerable position. Before very strong winds,
storms or severe weather, **retract it fully**.
Wind pressure can make a spring-balanced blind harder to move. Do not force it.
Operate from the centre and follow the [Ziptrak user guidance](https://www.ziptrak.com.au/faq/can-i-leave-the-blinds-down-on-windy-days/).
## Motorised Executive screens
Retract before severe weather and use the operating guidance supplied for your
configuration. If wind pressure is affecting movement, stop rather than forcing
the screen through repeated operation. Keep the travel path clear.
An optional wind sensor can retract the screen as wind rises. We confirm the
controls and settings for your installation. Phantom explains its
[sensor options](https://www.phantomscreens.com/retractable-screens/motorized-screens/)
and recommends retracting screens in very strong winds in its
[manufacturer FAQ](https://www.phantomscreens.com/support/faq/).
## Mesh and clear PVC behave differently
Air passes through mesh. Clear PVC presents a solid panel, so do not assume the
same size or exposure is suitable for both. We assess the opening, fabric and
fixings before recommending a system.
If a damp blind must be retracted for protection, lower it to dry when conditions
allow. Follow the [care guide](/guides/care/) for cleaning and storage.
## Choosing a screen for an exposed opening
Send photographs, rough sizes and a description of the site's exposure with
your [enquiry](/quote/). We can compare [Executive motorised screens](/outdoor-blinds/motorised/)
and [Ziptrak manual blinds](/outdoor-blinds/manual/) for the space.

# About Phantom Screens NZ
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/about/
Phantom Screens NZ is a New Zealand-owned business supplying made-to-measure, professionally installed retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds since 1999.
FAQs:
Q: Where is Phantom Screens NZ based?
A: Our workshop and head office are in Tauranga, where our retractable window screens are made to measure. Professional installation, service, and aftercare are arranged through Phantom Screens NZ, with larger and architectural projects taken on nationwide by arrangement.
## Our story
Phantom Screens came to New Zealand in 1999, when Vaughan Bryant started fitting
Phantom's retractable screens - made in those days in Phantom's Adelaide factory -
and ran the whole operation from a carport on Fraser Street in Tauranga. For years
Vaughan was on the road the length of the country, measuring openings, fitting
screens, and building a dealer network from the ground up.
When Adam Broadbent took the business over, it came with some stock, some
hard-won know-how, and one employee - who still builds screens in our Tauranga
workshop today. Vaughan took Adam out to his first measure-up himself: a big
country home in the Waikato, the trees turning as they drove down in the autumn.
Since then the business has grown and brought manufacturing to New Zealand -
our retractable window screens are now made to measure in our own
Tauranga workshop, alongside our head office. The hands-on start hasn't changed:
every screen is measured for the opening, made to order, and professionally
installed.

We've screened more than 3,000 Kiwi homes. Every retractable insect screen,
window screen, and outdoor blind we sell is professionally installed, with
service and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.

# Insect Screens for Retirement Villages
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/retirement-villages/
Retractable insect screens and outdoor blinds for retirement villages, made to measure and professionally installed. Easy to use and low-maintenance.
FAQs:
Q: Do you work with retirement village operators?
A: Yes. We work with village operators and developers on new builds and existing villas, and we are an approved or recommended provider at several villages. We can quote a single villa or a whole stage, and coordinate access and timing with the village.
Q: Can residents arrange screens themselves?
A: Often, yes - it depends on the village's rules. Some villages have us as the go-to provider so residents can deal with us directly; others prefer enquiries to come through the operator. If you are a resident, send us your village and we will let you know the best way to proceed.
Q: Why do retractable screens suit older residents?
A: They are light to operate, retract out of sight when not needed, and let residents keep doors and windows open for fresh air without insects. There is no heavy frame to lift or store, and the mesh cartridges and parts are replaceable, so a screen is serviced rather than thrown away.
Q: Do you screen the larger doors common in villas?
A: Yes. Our captured edge door screen range spans wide sliders and stacking doors, and we fit hinged, sliding, and ranch-slider doors as well as windows - so the whole villa can be screened to suit how each resident uses the space.
Q: Where do you install for villages?
A: Across the upper North Island, from Taupo north - Northland, Auckland, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty - which covers most of the region's villages. We take on larger or out-of-area village work nationwide by arrangement. See all the areas we install in.
## Screening designed for village living
Retirement villages want screening that residents can use easily and that keeps
looking after itself. Phantom retractable screens suit both: they are light to
operate, they retract out of sight when not in use, and they let residents leave
doors and windows open for fresh air without flies, mosquitoes, or midges getting
in. The hardware is built to be used every day for years, and mesh cartridges and
parts are replaceable, so a screen is serviced rather than replaced.
We can screen a single villa or coordinate a whole stage with the village - hinged,
sliding, and ranch-slider doors, wide sliders and stackers in the captured edge
range, and made-to-measure window screens. Everything is professionally
installed, with service and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
For apartment-style units with lift access, the Executive motorised screen is
available as a two-part system that is rejoined on site, with a battery motor
that charges by USB-C so no wiring is needed - see our guide to
[patio screens for apartments](/guides/patio-screens-for-apartments/).

## Working with your village
We are happy to work with your village to become an approved or preferred
provider - we do this often. If your administration needs pricing, product
information, insurance or health-and-safety documentation, or a standard scope
for villas, just ask and we will provide whatever helps get us on your list.
## Talk to us about your village
Whether you are an operator planning a stage or a resident screening your villa,
send us your village and a couple of photos and we will come back with the right
approach and an indicative price.

# Insect Screens for Coastal & Beach Homes
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/coastal-insect-screens/
Retractable insect screens for coastal and beach homes - built for sandflies, midges and salt air. Made to measure and professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: Will screens keep sandflies and midges out at the beach?
A: Yes. Coastal and estuary homes get the worst of the sandflies and midges, especially at dusk. Standard insect mesh stops flies and mosquitoes; where the biters are bad we fit a tighter midge mesh (no-see-um), so you can leave the doors open to the sea breeze without the bites.
Q: How do the screens hold up to salt air?
A: They are built to live outside. The hardware is powder-coated and the mesh is a synthetic weave, so salt air does not rust them the way it does bare steel. A rinse with fresh water now and then keeps everything running smoothly - the same easy care as your joinery.
Q: Can you screen a big opening that frames the view?
A: Yes, and the point is that the screen disappears when you are not using it, so it never gets in the way of the view. A single captured edge screen spans up to about 4.5 m with standard mesh and suitable height, two meeting in the middle reach about 9 m, and the Executive outdoor screen goes wider again - all retracting fully out of sight into a slim cassette.
Q: What about wind on an exposed coastal deck?
A: Outdoor blinds run their fabric in captured side channels so it stays firm in a sea breeze, and a motorised blind can take a wind sensor that retracts it automatically in a gust. See our guide to outdoor blinds and wind.
Q: Do you install along the coast from Taupo north?
A: Yes. We arrange professional installation across the coastal Bay of Plenty (Mount Maunganui, Pāpāmoa, Whangamatā, Ōhope), Auckland, Northland, and the Waikato coast, with larger or further-out coastal work nationwide by arrangement. See all the areas we install in.
## Screens made for life by the water
Coastal and beach homes get the best of the outdoors and the worst of the
biters. Sandflies and midges come off the estuary at dusk, the salt air is hard
on anything that rusts, and the big sliders and stackers that frame the view are
exactly the openings you want to leave open to the sea breeze. Phantom
retractable screens suit all of it: standard Phifer mesh keeps flies and
mosquitoes out, while a tighter [midge mesh](/guides/mesh-options/) is the right
choice for sandflies and smaller midges. The whole screen retracts out of sight -
and out of the weather - when you are not using it.
The powder-coated hardware and synthetic mesh are chosen for exposed conditions.
Along with normal mesh and track cleaning, an occasional fresh-water rinse helps
clear salt and preserve the finish.
## Big openings, uninterrupted views
Our captured edge range spans wide sliders and stackers - up to about 4.5 m per screen with standard mesh and suitable height,
two meeting in the middle for openings to about 9 m - and the motorised
[Executive outdoor screen](/outdoor-blinds/) goes wider again to enclose a deck
against wind, glare, and insects. Every one retracts fully into a slim cassette,
so the view is never compromised.
## Made to measure, professionally installed
Every screen is made to measure and professionally installed, with service and
aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ. We cover the coastal Bay of
Plenty and Waikato up through Auckland and Northland, with larger or further-out
coastal work nationwide by arrangement. Send photos and rough sizes for an
indicative price - no visit needed to get started.

# Privacy Policy
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/privacy/
How Phantom Screens NZ collects, uses, and protects your personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
## Who we are
This policy covers how Phantom Screens NZ ("we", "us") collects, uses, and
protects your personal information, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act
2020.
## What we collect
- **Enquiry details** you give us - your name, contact details, address or
region, the photos and measurements you send, and what you tell us about your
project.
- **Phone calls** - recordings and transcripts of calls to and from our business
numbers.
- **Website usage data** - standard analytics such as pages visited and how you
arrived, collected to improve the site and our advertising.
## How we use it
We use your information to:
- respond to your enquiry, prepare a quote, and arrange a measure-up and
installation;
- provide service, aftercare, and warranty support;
- improve our website, products, and advertising.
We do **not** sell your personal information.
## Preparing estimates
To prepare estimates, we may use specialist service providers to turn project messages, call
transcripts, photos and measurements into draft suggestions. Our staff review these suggestions
before using them in your estimate.
Providers assisting with estimates may process or store information outside New Zealand.
## Who we share it with
We share information only as needed to run our business - for example with the
service providers who host our website, handle our enquiry forms, phone calls
and messaging, and process payments. They are required to protect your
information and use it only for those purposes.
## Measuring our advertising
We advertise with Google and Meta. To see which of that advertising leads to
work, we report back to them as enquiries progress, for example when you accept
a quote.
Each report includes the quote's value, the date and time, our job reference,
and your email address and phone number in hashed form. Hashing converts them to
a code that cannot be read back, so Google and Meta can match the job to an
advertisement.
Google receives a report only if you reached us by clicking a Google
advertisement, and it receives the reference for that click.
Meta also receives your region, the address of the web page you first arrived
on, and the IP address and type of browser you used when you enquired. If you
clicked a Meta advertisement, Meta receives a reference for that click, and if
Meta's own cookie was set in your browser, Meta receives the identifier it
holds.
These reports never include your name or street address.
## Phone calls
We record and transcribe incoming and outgoing calls to our business numbers,
and keep them with the rest of your job record.
We use them to keep an accurate record of what was discussed and agreed, to
train and support our team, and to improve our service. We do **not** sell or
publish recordings or transcripts.
## Cookies and analytics
Our site uses cookies and analytics tools to understand how the site is used and
to measure advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Customer reviews are displayed using Elfsight. When the reviews load, your browser
connects to Elfsight and its supporting services, which may use cookies. See
[Elfsight’s privacy policy](https://elfsight.com/privacy-policy/) for details.
## Storing your information
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as
the law requires, and we take reasonable steps to keep it secure.
The temporary source-text copy in our estimating system is scheduled for deletion 30 days after
preparation. Original correspondence, suggestions, review history and job records may be retained
longer for service, audit and recovery purposes. Deleting the temporary copy does not immediately
remove existing backups.
Our estimate-processing provider normally deletes submitted material and responses within 30 days.
It may retain information longer for legal obligations or to investigate and prevent misuse, and
authorised provider staff may review flagged content.
## Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold
about you and ask us to correct it. To make a request, or for any privacy
question, [contact us](/contact/).
## Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; the current version always lives on
this page.

# Insect Screens for Rural & Lifestyle Homes
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/rural-insect-screens/
Retractable insect screens for rural homes, lifestyle blocks and farms - built for high fly pressure, made to measure and professionally installed.
FAQs:
Q: Do retractable screens hold up to high fly pressure?
A: Yes - that is where they earn their keep. Rural and farm homes get far more flies than town, and a fitted Phifer mesh keeps them out while the doors stay open for airflow. Where sandflies or midges are bad we can fit a tighter midge mesh.
Q: Will the mesh survive dogs and farm cats?
A: Pet mesh on compatible captured edge doors can resist light damage from small pets. It is not pet-proof or a containment barrier, so tell us how your animals use the doorway. Damaged mesh can be replaced.
Q: Will they fit the doors and windows on a farm home?
A: Yes. Most farm and lifestyle homes have the same doors and windows as any other house, and a captured edge screen suits the single swing or slider the family really uses - the boot room or wet room where everyone kicks off their boots coming in off the farm. Where a home does have a wider slider or stacker, the larger captured edge housings can suit it. Size limits vary by mesh and height, and we confirm the limit for your mesh with your quote.
Q: Do you install on lifestyle blocks and farms?
A: Yes. We arrange installation regularly across the upper North Island (Taupo north - Northland, Auckland, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty), so rural areas and lifestyle blocks in and around those regions are well covered. Larger or architectural projects further afield are considered nationwide by arrangement. See all the areas we install in.
Q: Can you work around milking?
A: Yes. We are used to fitting in around farm routines - milking, calving, or whatever the day needs - and we book the measure-up and install for a time that works around yours.
Q: Can I get a price without you driving out?
A: Usually, yes. Send photos and rough opening sizes and we will come back with an indicative price - we only book a measure-up once you're happy with the solution and product, which saves a long drive for both of us.
## Screens that earn their keep on rural homes
Rural and lifestyle homes deal with far more fly pressure than town homes. Dairy
cows, horses, and farm animals draw flies in numbers a town section never sees, so a
fitted Phifer mesh keeps flies, mosquitoes, and midges out while doors and windows
stay open for airflow. Where sandflies or midges are bad we fit a tighter midge mesh.
Dairy farmers and horse breeders are a natural fit for what we do, and their screens
have to last. Every screen is built to stand up to years of daily use and farm
weather, and where dogs and farm cats come and go all day we fit a compatible pet mesh to resist light scratching. It is not a containment barrier. Every panel is replaceable, so a screen
is serviced rather than thrown away.
## Made to measure, professionally installed
Every screen is made to measure and professionally installed, with service and
aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ. Larger or further-out work is
taken on nationwide by arrangement. Send photos and rough sizes for an
indicative price - no long drive needed to get started.

# NZ Owned - Made to Measure in Tauranga
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/about/nz-made/
New Zealand-owned since 1999, with our head office and workshop in Tauranga. Serene and MagicSeal window screens are made to measure here.
FAQs:
Q: Are Phantom screens made to measure in New Zealand?
A: We have been New Zealand-owned since 1999, with our head office and workshop in Tauranga. Our Serene retractable and MagicSeal magnetic window screens are made to measure in our Tauranga workshop. Our doors and outdoor ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, and the Brio door is supplied by Allegion. Every product is cut to your sizes, with measurement, fitting, service, and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
## NZ owned, made to measure
We have been New Zealand-owned since 1999, with our head office and workshop in
Tauranga. Our Serene retractable and MagicSeal magnetic window screens are made
to measure in our Tauranga workshop. Our captured edge door screens (MeshLock and Wall Screen systems) and
Executive outdoor screens are made to measure by Phantom in Australia,
and the Brio 612 pleated door is supplied by Allegion. Every product is cut to
your sizes, not a stock fit. That means a business you can come back to for
service and parts years down the track.
## Quality components
Our screens are built around components from established suppliers, including:
- **Vulcan Aluminium** - aluminium extrusions for cassettes and tracks.
- **Trufold** - powder-coating, colour-matched to the Dulux range.
- **Allegion (Brio)** - pleated door hardware for architectural openings.
- **Alpha** (with SIMU and Somfy options) - motors for our Executive outdoor blinds.
## Backed locally
Because each screen is made to measure and professionally installed, mesh
cartridges are replaceable and parts are serviceable long-term. Phantom-made
screens are backed by our [limited lifetime warranty](/warranty/), while
MagicSeal and other product ranges carry the terms listed on our warranty page.

# Warranty & Aftercare
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/warranty/
Product-specific warranty summaries for Phantom, Brio, MagicSeal and Ziptrak screens, with service coordinated by Phantom Screens NZ.
FAQs:
Q: Why do the warranty terms differ by screen?
A: We install several product families and their supplier or manufacturer terms are different. The product-specific summaries on this page keep those terms separate instead of turning them into one blanket promise.
Q: How do I know which warranty applies to my screen?
A: Your quote, invoice and job record identify the installed product. Send us your address or proof of purchase and we will confirm the product and the terms that apply before assessing the issue.
Q: Is accidental or wear damage automatically covered?
A: No. Wear items, accidental damage, misuse and maintenance conditions vary by product. Send photos rather than relying on a general exclusion list; we will identify the applicable terms and assess the cause.
Q: What should I send with a warranty or service enquiry?
A: Send proof of purchase if you have it, your installation address, a short description and clear photos or video. That lets us identify the product and decide whether warranty assessment or paid service is appropriate.
Q: Who do I contact for a warranty issue or service?
A: Contact Phantom Screens NZ directly. We identify the product, confirm the applicable supplier terms, assess the issue and coordinate the next step.
## One place to start
The warranty terms pass through by product family, but you do not need to work
out which supplier to call. **Start with Phantom Screens NZ.** We identify the
installed product, check the relevant terms, assess the issue and coordinate the
appropriate warranty or paid-service route.
[Download the warranty summary (PDF)](/downloads/phantom-screens-warranty.pdf) for your records.
## What to send
[Contact us](/contact/) with your proof of purchase and a quick description (a
photo or short video helps). We use the job record to confirm the product before
giving a coverage answer. Please do not dismantle or force a damaged screen while
you wait; the [care guide](/guides/care/) has safe routine steps.
## About this summary
The product cards above are customer-facing summaries, not the underlying
supplier instruments. Product-specific conditions still apply, and a summary is
not a promise that a particular failure will be covered.
These warranty arrangements are in addition to your rights under the
**Consumer Guarantees Act**.

# How We Work - From Quote to Install
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/about/our-process/
How Phantom Screens NZ works - indicative quote from your photos, precise measure-up, then a screen made to measure and professionally installed.
## A price-first process
We keep it simple and put the price first, so you can make a decision before
anyone visits:
1. **Enquire** - send photos and rough sizes through the [quote form](/quote/), or call us.
2. **Indicative quote** - we come back with an indicative price, usually without
a site visit.
3. **Measure-up** - once you are happy, we visit to measure precisely and confirm
the screen, mesh, and colour.
4. **Made and installed** - your screen is made to measure and professionally
fitted, with service and aftercare arranged through Phantom Screens NZ.
Phantom-made screens are backed by our [limited lifetime parts warranty](/warranty/).
See what to expect on the day in our [install-day checklist (PDF)](/downloads/phantom-install-day-checklist.pdf).
## Why photos first
Visiting every enquiry is expensive, and that cost ends up in the price. By
quoting from photos first, we keep prices keen and only spend a measure-up visit
once you know the screen is right for you. See the
[measuring guide](/guides/measuring/) for what we need.

# Phantom Screens NZ and the Global Brand
URL: https://phantomscreens.co.nz/about/phantom-screens-global/
Phantom Screens NZ is part of the global Phantom family, locally owned and run, with made-to-measure screens professionally installed in New Zealand.
## You are in the right place for New Zealand
Phantom Screens NZ is part of the wider Phantom Screens family, and we are New
Zealand owned and run. Our retractable window screens are made to measure in
our Tauranga workshop. Every retractable insect screen and outdoor blind we sell
is professionally installed, with service and aftercare arranged through Phantom
Screens NZ.
## How we relate to Phantom Screens overseas
There are Phantom Screens businesses in other countries - Phantom Screens in North America (Canada and the United States), Phantom Screens Australia, and Phantom in the United Kingdom. Phantom in Canada leads much of the international
research and development behind the systems, and a few of our door and outdoor
ranges are made to measure by Phantom in Australia, where our New Zealand volumes
are too small to make them here. Either way, the New Zealand business you deal
with here makes or sources, installs, and services your screens, quotes in New
Zealand dollars, and backs them with local aftercare.
